The Computer Vision and AI Specialist will be a founding member of the solar innovation business responsible for redesigning the future of solar. The Computer Vision and AI Specialist will be responsible for develop, maintain, deploy, and optimize machine learning models and computer vision codes integrated with robotics applications on Atlas, a new growth business that accelerates solar deployment. The foundation of this business is Atlas, the AI-enabled solar module installation robot developed by AES with its key industry partners.

A successful candidate is strongly motivated and passionate about solving computer vision and ML problems and pushing the boundaries of what is possible today and will be an entrepreneurial, mission-driven individual responsible for actively progressing, developing, and executing the vision, roadmap, and product development of solar module installation robotic system. This individual will take on the responsibility of developing and maintaining machine learning pipeline, deploying new models to production, and monitoring their performance collaborating closely with robotics and mechanical engineers to ensure seamless integration of machine learning models and computer vision codes into our applications. As a specialist in the Atlas business, this position will work collaboratively across the Atlas, external industry partners across the value chain, and AES teams, including engineering, business development, construction, finance, supply chain, and strategy. Major Responsibilities

  • Build high-performing and scalable computer vision and CNN (convolutional neural network) models.
  • Work on all stages of model development life cycle from defining data requirements, metrics, and labeling needs to deploying final models as part of the product.
  • Tunning hyper-parameters to optimize model performance.
  • Stay ahead of the latest ML/CV research by reviewing papers and implementing innovative concepts.
  • Develop and improve computer vision AI/ML models by finding opportunities to improve training, validation and deployment.
  • Enhance our machine learning pipeline and related tools to support development, experimentation, continuous integration, continuous delivery, verification/validation, and monitoring of AI/ML models in the field.
  • Investigate and debug issues in machine learning systems and provide timely resolutions.
  • Work with engineers (robotics, mechanical, hardware, etc) to define hardware/software architecture and project roadmap.
  • Deliver and implement product roadmap, while fostering strategic partnerships for technology development.
  • Develop and continuously update the landscape of technologies, trends, collaborators, and customer needs.
  • Drive product improvements and development of requirements for the robotic system to enable delivery of near-term and future commitments.
  • Identify and track key solar PV modules installation metrics for tier 1 solar tracker vendors.
  • Support on the development of Atlas operations plan based on project requirements within the established schedule.
  • Work across Atlas and AES leadership teams to build excitement and confidence around Atlas vision and objectives, and secure direct and indirect resources.
  • Foster relationships and work collaboratively with AES businesses and platform units in the US, Americas and Eurasia related to the use of this technology in their region.
  • Support periodic project updates and reporting to senior managers through preparation of project status and budget reports.
  • Up to 75% travel may be required  .

Qualifications

  • Founder’s mentality: Entrepreneurial passion for getting things done and a “make it happen” attitude with an intellectual curiosity to seek new opportunities.
  • Experience: Bachelor of Science in STEM field (e.g. statistics, mathematics, machine learning, computer science, physics, engineering, etc.) with 10+ years of proven industry experience in developing computer vision algorithms and deep learning models in Python/C++ for production systems. Experience in using deep learning for object detection, classification, and segmentation. MBA or similar continuing education preferred.
  • Expertise: Deep knowledge of frameworks like Pytorch and Tensorflow and other tools such as MLFlow, Tensorboard, Kubeflow, and Docker. Also deep knowledge to code using Python, C++ and others.
  • Skill and Behavior: Capability to work dynamically and collaboratively across multiple teams in a fast-paced and technical business environment with minimal supervision. Excellent communication skills. Results-oriented, “can-do” attitude, and “get things done” mentality; comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity; no compromise on attention to quality and details.
  • Customer empathy: Strong capability to ideate new solutions and understand customer needs, while driving new products and solutions to market.
  • Technology fluency: Demonstrated ability to understand solar engineering and technology concepts, question assumptions, and make informed product and technology decisions. Technical understanding of automation, robotics, computer vision, machine learning and/or artificial intelligence, are required.
  • Languages: English required
