Job Description

Yelp is looking for an authentic, tenacious, unboring engineering leader - who plays well with others and always protects the source - to join our growing Identity Access Management (IAM) team. As the team’s remote Engineering Manager, you will have tremendous impact and broad scope overseeing Yelp’s authentication and authorization strategies.

The IAM team is responsible for designing and implementing new access controls to support Yelp’s internal tools. We maintain ownership of existing access controls and we work with stakeholders to ensure all controls meet Yelp’s business, security, and risk management needs. We also regularly collaborate with teams developing Yelp’s consumer application, the Yelp Business Owners application, Internal Audit, and other Security teams as they work to improve security posture and risk management of internal systems. Moving forward, we expect our IAM team to grow in headcount and scope as we become a team of experts taking ownership of authentication and authorization company wide.

We’d love to have you apply, even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement in this posting. At Yelp, we’re looking for great people, not just those who simply check off all the boxes.

This opportunity is fully remote and does not require you to be located in any particular region. We welcome applicants from throughout Ontario.

Where You Come In:

  • Hire, mentor, and grow a cross functional team of engineers.
  • Help define the long term roadmap for Identity Access Management.
  • Collaborate with other Yelp teams to help develop mobile apps, websites, APIs and products leveraging industry best practices in authentication and authorization.
  • Understand the evolving business landscape and product roadmap to anticipate potential risks and strategically align future projects.

What Your Team Will Do:

  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to design, implement, and deploy new strategies for least-privilege authentication and authorization to Yelp’s internal applications, systems and services.
  • Own parts of Yelp’s production infrastructure related to identity management.
  • Ensure existing access controls meet our continually evolving business, security, and risk management needs.

What It Takes to Succeed:

  • Experienced engineering leader with a software development background.
  • Experience working with full stack and backend developers.
  • Product and business insights to strengthen and solidify the team’s mandate.
  • People management and project leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to participate in 24/7 incident response when necessary.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Software development experience in Python, Java, JavaScript, Objective C, or similar.
