Job Description

Atlassian is continuing to hire with all interviewing and on-boarding done virtually due to COVID-19. All new and existing Atlassians will continue to work from home until it’s safe to return to our offices. When our offices re-open, we will provide the choice to work from home or return to work in an office unless a job requirement makes it necessary for a particular role to be performed at an Atlassian office.

Atlassian is looking for a Data Scientist to join our Product Analytics team in Sydney, Australia. We’re seeking someone with strong business instincts, creativity and analytics mastery, who is passionate about applying these skills to drive continuous improvement in our engineering organisation with the power of data insights.

You’ll work alongside our Insights team whose mission is to develop tools which provide insights, metrics and reports to engineering teams across Atlassian.

In this role you will get:

  • Play with our existing set of project planning, code repository and deployment data to understand current trends and then surface them to product teams and managers
  • Create effective visualisations that drive action, find opportunities and make recommendations to improve how our engineering teams drive towards customer outcomes
  • Identify and process additional data sources that can provide insights into how Atlassian teams work, in collaboration with product teams, data engineers and other analysts
  • Build an outstanding data-driven culture, through education and creation of self-service tools, to make a lasting change in how our engineering teams use data to plan, track and retrospect on their work

On the first day, we'll expect you to have:

  • Proven experience applying your analytics skills to projects which have had a positive impact to strategic and roadmap decisions
  • An agile development mentality, appreciating the benefit of constant iteration and improvement
  • A very high bar for output quality, while balancing “having something now vs. perfection in the future
  • Strong ability to communicate, crafting compelling insights and explaining data science concepts to non-technical partners
  • Proficiency in data manipulation (SQL) and statistical programming languages (R or Python)
  • Experience in one or more visualisation tools (Tableau, R-Shiny, etc)
  • A degree in a quantitative field (e.g. statistics, mathematics, physics, econometrics, or computer science)

It's great, but not required, if you have:

  • Previously worked in global teams and high growth companies
  • Familiarity with the software development life cycle and its data footprint
  • Are an active member of the broader analytics and data science community
