Job Description

Inari is seeking a motivated and experienced leader in computational biology to join our Science organization to lead the computational biology strategy and activities. As a member of the Science Leadership Team, you will (1) contribute to driving the scientific vision and strategy of Inari with a focus on predictive design, (2) supervise projects and activities in the area of data science and computational biology, including assay design and development, (3) drive and cultivate innovation to apply the most advanced computational biology concepts and tools to our portfolio and (4) contribute to the development of people and a high-performance science organization. This role reports directly to the Chief Scientific Officer and can be located in our offices in either Gent (Belgium) or in Cambridge, MA (USA).

As a Senior Director, Computational Biology you will...

  • Develop the strategy for and lead the integration of computational biology and data science into our predictive design and editing toolbox activities
  • Manage and guide computational biology and data scientists who lead and/or are engaged in projects in the area of target discovery & design and, multiplexing editing tools development
  • Work closely with the Technical Director Computational Biology to ensure that the most advanced methodologies are used effectively and efficiently in the science portfolio
  • Drive the science data management strategy by ensuring the analysis, integration and interpretation of relevant and high-quality data across our application domains (incl. genetic target discovery, gene regulation, plant characterization, genome modification, protein engineering, etc.)
  • Enhance our ability to analyze and integrate our own unique, contemporary genetic and genomic high-dimensional data into novel predictive and generative models that will set us apart from our competitors
  • Develop the strategy and driving the deployment of assays in support of data production for enhancing our computational biology analytics and prediction capabilities
  • Align the Computational biology Science strategy with the data and machine learning strategy through close collaboration with the Data and Compute leadership team
  • Contribute to the IP strategy by ensuring we capture value from our in computational biology and data science driven projects
  • Support the Science leadership team in planning, prioritizing and managing resources in the Science organization
  • Drive and communicate to diverse stakeholders the vision, strategy and achievements of the Science Organization
  • Attract, engage, develop and retain talent - bringing diversity of thought and background

You Bring...

  • PhD in STEM field such as computational biology, genetics, computer science, physics, mathematics or equivalent experience in an industry context with a master or bachelor degree
  • At least 10 years of demonstrated academic or industry experience in leading complex research projects and developing people. Experience in data science related to plant genetics at an Ag biotechnology firm preferred.
  • Ability to bridge the gap between genetics/biology and data science to ensure fruitful integration of disciplines and productive interaction across functions and the company to work towards common goals
  • Experience in creating and managing FTO and IP of computer/AI-related innovations
  • Demonstrated track record of complex problem solving, critical thinking and leading others to achieve novel insights, as well as driving a culture of innovation
  • Capacity to drive and clearly articulate vision and purpose
  • Ability to step up to address difficult issues, capacity to receive and provide constructive and actionable feedback to foster continuous self and organizational improvement
  • A team player mindset with demonstrated ability to build/lead functional teams and instill trust 
  • Proven record of developing people and creating an environment where people can learn and thrive
