We are hiring a new team of Senior ML Engineers in London to design, develop, train, and deploy machine learning solutions for a range of company-wide business initiatives such as High Definition (HD) Mapping, Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) Engine, Roads, and more.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer on the Navigation team, you'll play a key role in bringing to market machine learning models and solutions for best in map features, navigation, and high definition maps. You'll bring your experience and skills to our exciting projects within a competent, cross-functional, passionate and self-organized team. 

In this role you can expect to:

• Have end-to-end ownership of machine learning initiatives across Mapbox.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, design, and implement innovative ML solutions.
• Design and implement new feature extraction pipelines from open source and proprietary data.
• Containerize and deploy into production ML models.
• Collect and monitor technical and business metrics.
• Play a central role in discussing and implementing security best practices.
• Perform continuous model evaluation and validation to ensure high-quality predictions, while actively addressing any performance bottlenecks.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in machine learning technologies to drive innovation and maintain Mapbox’s competitive edge.
• Participate in code reviews and provide mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and continuous learning.
• Promote a culture of operational excellence by meticulously testing and monitoring our systems and code, and being on-call to support the health of our services.

What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on AI or ML preferred.
• 4+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Science, or AI.
• Proficiency with our tech stack: Python, SQL, Tensorflow, Spark, Airflow, Docker, and AWS (S3, SageMaker, EMR, Athena, Glue, IAM, and EC2).
• Experience with ETL data pipelines and infrastructure.
• Experience fine-tuning, training, and model serving ML Models.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for developing innovative solutions in the field of navigation and machine learning.
• A deep understanding of machine learning concepts, including model fine-tuning, embeddings, and proficiency with open-source ML libraries.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, allowing for seamless teamwork in a cross-functional environment.
• Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Nice to Have Traits for This Role

• Experience with Hadoop (or similar) ecosystem.
• Experience with workflow management tools (Airflow / Oozie / Luigi / Prefect).
• Experience fine-tuning and training LLMs.
