Position: Data Governance Intern- Remote

Location: Newport, KY

Intern: Data Governance

The DMG Data Governance team is currently looking for an individual who has passion for data discovery, modeling, design, curation, interpretation, cataloging and controlling. The top candidate will be adept with modern data platforms and a hands-on expert at mining data using complex tools and software, analyzing that data to find trends, and effectively communicating insights to stakeholders. They will need to work with stakeholders across the organization to uncover the processes that generate, transform, and distribute data. They will be the key resource in defining quality, control, and metadata standards for all enterprise data assets. It is a role that combines hard skills like SQL, data modeling and statistics with soft skills like communication, analytical thinking and problem-solving.

Job Summary

Data Governance Intern will support the broader Data & Analytics organization and is responsible for establishing, operationalizing, and sustaining a program that identifies, defines, manages, and publishes data standards and policies for enterprise data assets material to the success of DMG. 

Master Data: Working with Data Owners, Product Owners and Product Engineering to ensure the uniformity, accuracy, stewardship, semantic consistency, and accountability of the enterprise's official shared master data assets. Responsibilities include:

  • Hierarchy management
  • Business semantics management
  • Data security & regulatory compliance

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with business and DMG analysts to understand data and business process.
  • Help create data policies, standards, adoption strategies and communication plans.
  • Perform data analysis and document processes to enrich and standardize data values.
  • Participate in the development of data governance products for identifying, monitoring and remediating data quality defects.
  • Create taxonomy for cataloging data governance & quality rules and build data quality rule inventory.

Education & Experience:

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in information technology, computer science, business intelligence or business administration, with 1-2 years completed.
  • Experience with data governance, data quality with an emphasis on developing and implementing data standards, policies, practices, and procedures that lead to improved data integrity.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to effectively present to internal audiences.
  • Proficiency with PC applications for data analysis. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments, work independently and take initiative on assigned projects.
