The Opportunity

Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, L.P. is seeking a skilled individual for our Controls System Engineering position at our DTTP - Waller, TX location. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and analyzing Daikin control systems as well as developing and validating new control software and algorithms. Strong root cause analysis capability. This role must be team oriented and possess a continuous improvement mindset that contributes to the overall success of our development operations vision.

About DTTP

Daikin Texas Technology Park- has a footprint of 4.23 million square feet under a single roof, and is the third largest factory in the United States. Opened in 2017 as the manufacturing, logistics, and engineering center for Daikin's American subsidiary Goodman, the plant makes heating and air conditioning products sold under the Goodman, Amana, and Daikin brands.

Responsibilities

May include:

• Prototype theoretical concepts and deliver reference architectures, comprehensive studies, guidelines and recommendations for development team to follow and implement
• Analyze Daikin Control Systems and develop and validate new control software and algorithms for Daikin residential and light commercial HVAC equipment.
• Work with product development teams and control development team to develop new control and signal processing algorithms for use in residential and light commercial HVAC systems, including the development of comfort control algorithms for thermostat, system HVAC defrost algorithms, residential and light commercial zoning control algorithms, and ventilation/indoor air quality control algorithms.
• Use knowledge of classical, optimal, adaptive, and robust feedback control to prototype new algorithms in Python, C/C++, MATLAB and Simulink.
• Responsible for developing data analytics and diagnostics algorithms using knowledge of machine learning and implementing them on Daikin’s Cloud Platform using AWS Serverless.
• Participate in design reviews, software reviews, agile development and system integration tests.
• Troubleshoot/reproduce field control issues using historical data and modify thermostat algorithms to address them.
• Use knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer and numerical methods to create transient models and simulations of HVAC systems and components for software/hardware in the loop validation.
• Write control algorithm specification and architecture documentation and define embedded system implementation and testing requirements. Develop control algorithms specifications and ensure the deliverables are on-time and with high quality
• Work with product development teams and control development team to develop control systems and algorithms
• Responsible for data analytics and algorithms development based on Daikin Cloud Platform.
• Participate in design reviews, software reviews, agile development and system integration tests.
• Participate in troubleshoot/reproduce process for field control issues; Design and validate fix in production environments.
• Develop rapid prototyping through software/hardware in the loop testing
• Develop control algorithm specification and test instruction document in timely fashion and with high quality
• Continuously develop and refine control system algorithms and software
• Work with Control Systems Architect to define the ideal system architectures
• Work with cross cultural and organizational boundaries naturally
• Relentlessly champions innovative technical solutions and compelling value propositions to make Daikin the number one Controls provider in the U.S. market
• Performs other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills:

• Solid knowledge and experience in HVAC control and refrigeration systems
• Superior technical experience and respected for detailed knowledge of technology
• Proven success in developing HVAC controls algorithm
• Strong system knowledge of residential and light commercial HVAC system.
• Expert understanding of software development processes
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer
• Knowledge of control algorithm simulation software such as Matlab, Python and C.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in classic control theory such modeling PID controller and its tuning.
• Familiar with developing data analytics and diagnostics algorithms in AWS Serverless architect
• Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills
• Strong critical thinking skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Must be able to work in a very fast paced environment
• Be able to work a flexible schedule

Experience:

• 3 plus years control algorithm development experience
• 3 years HVAC industry experience.
• Experience with residential and light commercial thermostat control algorithm development
• Experience with residential and light commercial zoning control algorithm
• Experience with developing HVAC defrost algorithm

Education:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical engineering is required
• MS preferred
