YOUR ROLE

As the Senior Manager, Data Science of the Data Insights team, you are responsible for providing subject matter expertise and leadership. Reporting to the Senior Director of Data Insights, you will play a critical role in enhancing our organization by using data and analytics to drive business strategy, increase the use of data in decision making, enhance the customer experience and provide data insights that inform future profitability across the USLI organization. You will work closely with key cross functional stakeholders, collecting requirements and producing deliverables in the form of Insights, strategy, reports, or raw datasets that will be used to drive business decisions.

You will develop data recommendations and strategy, demonstrate thought leadership, manage complex projects, build relationships, recruit and mentor staff and collaborate with cross-functional teams. You should possess advanced analytical skills along with multiple years of experience leading individuals and developing a cohesive, high functioning analytics team.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Partner with leadership to execute on a robust strategy that integrates data and Insights into all aspects of the organization
  • Collaborate with business partners to understand their problems and goals, gather business requirements and develop analytical solutions to support their vision and strategy
  • Develop and lead a team of analysts with the skills, capabilities and passions necessary to successfully drive and sustain a data focused culture. This could include managing analysts with varying skillsets including but not limited to: Data Engineering, Data Analysis and Data Science.
  • Define, develop and provide insights, metrics, and analysis to drive the decision-making process and support business strategy for internal and external customers
  • Facilitate a data-driven, statistical approach to problem solving, including gathering, analyzing and reporting data
  • Solve complex problems utilizing creative solutions and new perspectives
  • Become an expert in assigned business processes, including upstream and downstream implications. Relate business process to financial performance measures and analysis.
  • Lead and execute process and data improvement projects
  • Conduct research and analysis to quantify business opportunities and issues; lead execution and implementation
  • Influence all levels of an organization to support projects and/or ideas
  • Measure and validate project results and successfully implement all facets of data modeling and data reporting
  • Focus on automation and utilizing technology to provide repeatable reporting solutions

MUST HAVE / WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in an analytical or technical discipline
  • At least 5 years of analyst experience in a dynamic environment. Expertise obtained through progressive analytical and operational work experience.
  • At least 2 years of direct leadership experience with proven ability to develop your team and execute on strategy
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to find answers. Ability to “connect the dots” and provide creative solutions
  • Outstanding presentation and written communication skills. Ability to develop and deliver clear, crisp and customer focused messages and presentations to all levels of the organization.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities
  • Relish and stimulate change - a demonstrated change agent with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to influence and work collaboratively in a team. Build relationship & networking skills with internal organization and customers
  • Expertise in Excel
  • Hands on Intermediate to advanced SQL/SAS or other programming language ability
  • Experience with database Rational Database Management System (RDBMS) technologies (e.g., SQL server, Greenplum, Oracle and etc).

NICE TO HAVE

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • 5+ years of direct leadership experience
  • 8+ years of analyst experience
  • Life/Long Term Care Insurance product and claims process knowledge
  • Database/ETL experience
  • Experience with advanced analytical and modeling data capabilities utilizing Python and/or R
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Databricks, AWS/Azure)
  • Expertise in Data Visualization
