About The Role

As a senior software engineer in the controls team, you will develop advanced whole-body manipulation control algorithms for our humanoid robot, Digit. Your work will allow Digit to manipulate heavy objects in constrained environments while being compliant to environmental disturbances. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to prototype and develop new manipulation use cases. You will be constantly pushing the envelope of what the robot can do as you design new behaviors and execute them on hardware.

About The Work

  • Develop and test advanced manipulation feedback and model predictive control algorithms for constrained whole body manipulation tasks
  • Develop estimation algorithms that enable robust manipulation of objects with unknown dynamics
  • Work with the manipulation and hardware teams to design and test next generation end effectors
  • Work hands-on with the robots as you test and verify your control and estimation algorithms

About You

  • You have
    • MS or PhD in robotics, computer science, or related field or have equivalent industry experience
    • 2+ years of experience developing and deploying manipulation control control algorithms for high degree of freedom robots
    • Strong software experience in modern C++
    • Ability to communicate technical information effectively both orally and in writing with other team members
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
    • Authorization to work in the USA

You might also have

  • Industry experience deploying mobile manipulation robots in real world applications
  • Experience in related technical areas such as (but not limited to) impedance/force control, model predictive/adaptive control, optimization, system identification, state estimation, or legged robots
  • Exposure to standard agile and software development processes (issue tracking tools (Jira), feature branching, version control (Git), continuous integration and deployment)
  • Publications in your field (RSS, ICRA, IROS preferred)
