Job Description

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our team in Irvine, CA, who has broad business understanding, data handling, programming and data visualization skills to independently formulate the questions that will help business identify and overcome operational challenges using KPI’s. The successful candidate should be able to understand the business problem and translate it into a data analysis strategy, implement it autonomiously and bring outcome into a visualization for management decsision making. As a Data Scientist you will be expected to create business insights from the available data. You should be confident in your ability to structure the data in a useful manner, mine it, and make relevant assumptions, build statistical & correlation models, prove causality, and search the data for signs of anything that can deliver a positive business impact. You should be experienced in providing business insights and related visual analytics around the key areas of Financial Portfolio Analytics, Product & material reliability, Platform and service profitabilites, competitive advange insights and supporting Lean transformation metrics. The successful candidate should be able to communicate with various stakeholders across the organization, hierarchical levels and cultural backgrounds, should be able to build productive working relationships and being self-driven.

How You’ll Make An Impact:

  • Participate in identifying, experimenting and testing of new ways to deliver value from combinations of operational data, customer data and third-party data sources
  • Transform and blend datasets both structured and unstructured into business insights and visualizations for management decision making
  • Perform descriptive, exploratory and inferential statistical analysis as well as supervised and unsupervised machine learning
  • Stay on the cutting edge of technology and Data Science and contribute to further building data science competencies in Bio-Rad.
  • Work with the application teams to source data, transform the data for analysis and compute usable insights from data.
  • Ability to create statistical models and data system programming as required.
  • Understanding of structured SQL and / or other BI tools/packages.
  • Design and rollout out training for specific visualization tools and data dashboards to stakeholders
  • Establish key performance indicators and analyze metrics to identify root causes behind shifts in performance.
  • Conduct extensive analysis on partner performance trends and provide insight into growth opportunities; synthesizing diverse, complex information to develop a story with data and insights.
  • Monitor performance of business goals and communicate status through visual analytics.
  • Proactively identify new analytic techniques to develop differentiated analytic solutions to drive results.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key client decision makers.
  • Write queries and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Understand partner business objectives and provide actionable analytic insights on one or more of the following topics: o schedule adhereance, financial trending, marketing analysis, instrument performance, and/or marketing analysis patterns.
  • Analyze sales trends, performs market assessments and prepares ad hoc data analyses as needed.

What You Bring:

  • Candidates with Bachelor’s Degree in statistics, computer science or mathematics with at least 3+ years experience or strong work portfolio in Machine Learning, hypothesis testing, and data analysis.
  • PhD or Master Degree in statistics, computer science or mathematics or similar quantitative field with 0-2 years experience.
  • Fluency in 1 or more of the following languages: R, Python, SQL, DAX, Java, C, C++, Go, Scala, Bash.
  • Expereince with Power BI, Tableau or a comparable data vizualization tool.
  • Solid understanding of the mathematical and theoretical foundations of statistical analysis and machine learning.
  • Experience with time based analysis, forecasting, and/or natural langauge processing.
  • Working knowledge of at least one of the following: Snowflake, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform.
  • Version Control with Git.
  • Working knowledge of big data platforms including Hadoop, Hive, Spark.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this position is $99,700 to $137,100 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors. This position is eligible for a variable annual bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of your individual objectives and Company performance.
