About the role:

1010data is looking for a Data Scientist to build internal and external data products to solve client-driven business problems. The Data Science team applies our curiosity and passion for data to create insights that help our clients make better decisions. We create timely and sophisticated analyses, build pipeline modules, deploy machine learning models, and implement new techniques to enhance 1010data’s products.

Our modern tech stack builds pipelines using 1010data’s industry-leading big data platform and open-source tools such as Airflow, Spark, and Python to analyze billions of rows of data every day. In this role, you will work closely with data engineers, product leaders, and client-facing teams as you build new capabilities.

What you will take on:

• Use your curiosity and passion for data to answer complex questions over real-world datasets comprised of billions of rows
• Conduct statistical analysis, natural language processing (NLP), and integration of massive datasets from multiple sources including exploratory analysis, identifying and correcting for bias, and answering client inquiries
• Conduct proof-of-concept studies to evaluate multiple competing models or forecasts to empirically justify your recommendations for action
• Learn and use 1010data’s industry-leading big data platform and Macro Language to build and deploy high performance data pipelines
• Communicate your findings, visualize results, and demonstrate your models effectively to broad, non-technical audiences
• Design, develop, deploy, and support production-critical pipelines and ML models using 1010data Insight Platform and open-source tools such as Airflow and Spark
• You will be based in the US and will be comfortable working remotely with the Data Science, Data Quality, Data Engineering, and Account Management teams

What you already have:

• Master’s or bachelor's degree in a quantitative or technical field such as Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Econometrics, or Engineering. Ph.D. is a plus.
• 0-3 years professional experience conducting statistical analysis, building production data science models, and creating insights from data at large scale
• Curiosity, clarifying questions, a passion for learning new things, and perseverance in the face of uncertainty
• Ability to communicate clearly in meetings and written documents, consider options presented by others, and reach a balanced technical opinion
• Understand and communicate the foundations of machine learning methods, their strengths, and their limitations
• Proficiency in writing software (Python preferred) to implement data science algorithms, data quality checks, cross-validation, and parameter tuning
• Experience working with parallel processing frameworks like Spark and orchestration frameworks like Airflow
• Proficiency in database and software engineering best practices such as query design, version control, unit testing, and deployment methods

The expected base salary range for this position is from $70,000 -$100,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, geography, and where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary annual performance bonus compensation.
