Job Description

The Role:

As a subject matter expert (SME) in spectral geology and/or remote sensing geology on the Customer Experience team you will focus primarily on the Mineral Exploration Vertical. This role will report to the Customer Experience Team and will include mentorship from our current Principal Remote Sensing Geologist and Spectral Geologists. The primary focus of the role will be technical support in the application of remote sensing principles of lithologic and alteration mapping using our Marigold software for a wide variety of mineral deposit types. This role will provide remote sensing expertise and support during sales calls and post-sale with prospective clients and customers. You will also support product onboarding and training. With time and experience you may also assist in the development of scoping and executing projects for clients in an Applied Science role. 

Your Impact:

• Work closely with the Sales and Customer Success teams under the mentorship of a Principal Remote Sensing Geologist.
• Provide onboarding and ongoing training to Mineral Exploration customers.
• Join sales calls with prospective mining clients to demonstrate and represent the domains of mineral exploration, deposit modeling, spectral geology/remote sensing geology 
• Support machine learning studies using remote sensing products as carried out by DL’s Remote Sensing experts or the Applied Science team
• Engage with Descartes Labs Teams to develop and deliver custom scope of work documents to help close deals with new mining clients
• Develop and propose remote sensing solutions using Marigold that utilize the Descartes Labs Products and Solutions to help clients improve exploration workflows and generate new mineral targets.

What You Bring:

• PhD or MSc (preferred), or BSc in a relevant scientific field such as Remote Sensing, Geoscience/Geochemistry, or Data Science (preferably with experience in the application of remote sensing geology, spectral geology, or mineralogy for mineral exploration). Relative work experience may substitute for education. 
• 3+ years of experience in mineral mapping of ore deposits using remote sensing data such as ASTER, Sentinel-2, WorldView-3 or hyperspectral imagery. This will include demonstrated knowledge in the alteration systems associated with prominent ore deposit models for a variety of commodities.
• Strong problem solving skills, with the ability to research, develop, and implement solutions to novel problems.
• Experience working with clients to develop proposals that utilize remote sensing geology and self-motivation and able to work independently as well as within a team.

Bonus Skills/Experience

• Proficiency in scientific computing with Python, preferably focused on remote sensing/geospatial data, with exposure to machine learning principles, with the ability to quickly pick up new technical skills
• Knowledge of machine learning to solve exploration business problems.

$95,000 - $105,000 a year

Please note the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level & competencies.
