Job Description

NephroSant is a fast-paced diagnostic startup focused on applying the founding team’s years of clinical research expertise to improve global kidney health. Our mission is to translate the deep scientific and pathological insights into best-in-class noninvasive tests to address the hidden epidemic of chronic kidney disease which affects more than 10% of the world’s adult population.

We have created proprietary product pipelines and are currently developing multi-biomarker assays to monitor kidney injury conditions. We continue to build a dynamic, professional team and are looking for a highly motivated, talented, and passionate Scientist to assist in assay development and optimization. Because NephroSant is an early-stage company, this position would have the opportunity to collaborate closely with other R&D scientists, bioinformaticians, and clinical laboratory teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform the design, execution, and validation of machine learning algorithms for the Company’s multi-analyte proprietary laboratory tests. This includes developing project plans and managing timelines.
  • Troubleshoot statistical analyses and software use and development and serve as an internal technical expert.
  • Analyze and interpret biomarker and clinical data to support the functions of Research & Development and Clinical Affairs Operations Teams. This includes investigating new methodologies and Off-the-Shelf software as needed.
  • Produce original figures and tables that enable clear communication of analysis.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Review scientific and other literature on bioinformatics/biostatistics to provide technical summaries and recommendations.
  • Participates in development of patent applications through invention disclosures.
  • Prepares technical papers, reports, and documents. This includes drafting, editing, and troubleshooting standard operating procedures.
  • Presents at regular meetings and occasional conferences. Regularly communicates with collaborators and vendors as well as other internal departments.
  • Manage, supervise, and train other team members.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Background and Experience:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biology, Bioinformatics, or related fields with 4+ years of industry experience, or Master’s degree with 7+ years of industry experience, or Bachelor’s degree and 11+ years industry experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop novel machine learning models and apply problem-solving skills to complex issues.
  • Strong background in programming, particularly in R and Phyton, to implement data processing, data visualization, and statistical analyses
  • Strong background in univariate and multivariate statistical analyses, including machine learning techniques for building predictive models
  • Experience working on large, multivariate data sets that include clinical information from various study designs
  • Demonstrated success working independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, scientific reasoning and problem-solving skills in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles and standards of software development and validation in a CLIA clinical laboratory setting.
  • Highly motivated and successful individual to work in a fast-paced team environment and maintain positive and helpful interactions within and beyond the bioinformatics & biostatistics teams.
  • Excellent time management, project management, multitasking, organizational and communication skills.

Not Required but Great to Have:

  • Ability to communicate across teams especially with laboratory scientists and clinical affairs professionals is a strong plus.
  • Project management and document control experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience with small team management/supervision is desirable.
