If you’re looking for a way into Data Science, this Degree Apprenticeship programme provides the perfect opportunity to kick start your career. Data science is an exciting and fast-evolving field blending knowledge from a range of fields: mathematics, computer science, statistics and engineering disciplines. Data scientists are inquisitive, and they explore and visualise data of all kinds to address complex real-worlds problems.

As a Data Science Degree Apprentice at Amey, you’ll be involved in developing entirely new ways of using data to solve problems in the rail, highways infrastructure sector that we operate in. You’ll have lots of opportunities to apply the skills and knowledge you have gained during the degree to solving practical real-world problems. For our Data Science team, the purpose is simple; we want to help our customers maximise business performance and efficiency through data-driven problem-solving. We help unlock value and insight from existing data which enables organisations to make better, safer, faster evidence-based decisions.

As part of the Data Science team you will work on a variety of data analysis competencies, you will analyse real-world data to support process improvements and innovations for our clients. You’ll see your work progress from data exploration and experimentation through to real world implementation making a difference to rail, road and the built environment across the UK. You’ll feel inspired to challenge yourself, as well as your colleagues. You’ll have the opportunity to thrive and we’ll help you shape your career.

The role

As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto the Data Science Degree Apprenticeship where you still study for a Data Scientist Integrated Degree qualification with York St John University . Your Degree Apprenticeship typically takes 3.5 years to complete and is fully supported through a combination of face-to-face lectures, e-learning materials, and access to the University’s team of specialist lecturers and Coaches for 1-2-1 advice and support.

Within Amey, you’ll be partnered with a “buddy” to assist you as you settle into your new role, helping answer all those initial questions you may have. Once you’ve settled in, you will be allocated a mentor who will support you throughout your Degree Apprenticeship, helping you develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed.

Our Apprentice programme at Amey will challenge and inspire you to reach your full potential and build your career. Afterwards? Well, it’s just the start of an exciting career full of amazing opportunities as you progress through our Career Development Framework, starting with a role as Data Science Consultant.

Throughout your programme, you will receive a structured learning and development programme to enable your professional and personal development. You’ll get hands-on experience while collaborating with some of the best minds in the industry. Yes, you’ll learn from them, but they expect to learn from you too.

The results of our Degree Apprenticeship are so rewarding - whether that’s through your professional development, your growth as an individual or seeing your input really make a difference. But don’t just take our word for it, Rebecca Brenna, who is one of our current Degree Apprentices had this to say:

Amey’s Apprenticeship program has been a career changer for me and an amazing opportunity to gain education and experience.
