Aon is looking for Data Engineering and Data Science 2023 Summer Interns to join our team.

Location of Job: Boston, MA; Seattle, WA; Spokane, WA; New York, NY; Chicago, IL; or Remote.

About the Position: Aon Intellectual Property Solutions helps clients protect and improve their most valuable asset in today’s business world—their intellectual property. As a Data Engineering Intern, you will work on our data pipelines and organize raw data. As a Data Science Intern, you will build statistical and machine learning models to answer sophisticated questions related to IP analysis, valuation, and risk modeling. The questions we answer range from “How many lawsuits will your company have next year?” to “Are the patents you own actually any good?”

Required Education:

• Undergrad with significant computer science, data engineering/ data science, and quantitative coursework

Required Skills and Attributes:

• Experience with a modern software language; we use Python extensively
• Experience with a relational database such as PostgreSQL
• Inquisitive mind and passion for data science or data engineering
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Data Engineering Intern - Experience with organizing data using distributed version-control systems such as Git
• Data Science Intern - Experience with data analysis and statistical packages (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn)

Additional Preferred Skills - Data Engineering:

• Experience with cloud systems like AWS or Azure
• Database schema design experience, indexing optimizing for performance
• ETL experience, including data cleaning and preparation for modeling
• Some visualization experience such as Tableau or PowerBI is helpful

Additional Preferred Skills – Data Science:

• Experience in data cleaning and performing exploratory data analysis for proof of concept and prototyping
• Experience building machine learning models
• Experience with organizing data using distributed version-control systems such as Git
• Experience with cloud systems like AWS or Azure
• Some visualization experience such as Tableau or PowerBI is helpful

Expectations:

• Help build products as needed for all IP Solutions business units
• Collaborate effectively with people at all levels in the organization

Data Engineering

• Receive and perform code reviews with other engineers
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to verify functionality using automated testing frameworks such as pytest
• Participate in Agile teams to develop, test, and debug complex data processing pipelines and data analysis applications using big data processing systems and patterns.
• Diagnose, debug, and perform root cause analysis of issues and defects.

Data Science

• Work on the IP Solutions data cleaning and preparation pipeline
• Develop ways to use data to repeatably answer questions for other IP Solutions partners

Aon Summer Internship Program

The goal of the Aon Summer Internship Program is to give students significant exposure to Aon through project deliverables, continuing education and a training curriculum. The program also provides students with an excellent opportunity to learn and prepare for post‐graduate career opportunities at Aon. Upon successful completion of the Aon Summer Internship Program, highly qualified interns may be offered post-graduation full‐time positions within the Launch Program, Aon’s Early Career Development Program.

The target salary range for this position is $21 - $25 per hour. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.
