Near Space Labs is leading the next generation of Earth imaging. We design, build and operate a fleet of proprietary, stratospheric balloons called Swiftys. Our Swiftys fly to the edge of space to deliver high quality, highly updated imagery of our planet at down to earth prices.

Our innovations don’t stop at image capture. Customers need us to process and serve data in a format that is easily accessible for their data scientists, product managers, geographers, and remote sensing specialists. We make it easy for them to quickly and seamlessly evaluate the dynamics of our planet, climate, and urban environments.

We are offering a flexible, part-time, paid internship in our Flight Vehicle Engineering Unit that develops our stratospheric robots. You’ll be an active member of the research and development team, helping with embedded programming of on-board processing units, sensor and actuator integration, and assisting with continuous integration and testing of our imaging platforms.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Low and high-level programming of embedded on-board processing units for our imaging platforms.
  • C++ Software wrappers for various robot peripherals, including sensors and actuators
  • Executing Flight readiness procedures of our high-altitude robotic platforms
  • Running Hardware-in-the Loop (HIL) simulations for testing new functionalities.
  • Participation in field test campaigns and other testing activities.

Location

This is an on-site position in our Barcelona Office. You must be a student in a Spanish university and eligible for an internship. We will prioritize candidates willing to do a 6 months or longer internship.

Your Skills

  • Experience with low level C and/or C++
  • Experience with arduino type micro-processors or similar.
  • Familiarity with Raspberry Pi and similar SBCs is a plus.
  • Python for scientific programming is a plus.
  • Git (or other version control tools),
  • Self-driven and proactive,
  • Experience with Linux systems is a plus.
  • You are in the 3rd year or later in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Telecoms, Industrial Engineering or similar bachelor degree, or doing a master.
