Job Description

Brooks Automation is seeking a Robotics Manufacturing Engineer to provide electro-mechanical manufacturing engineering expertise to our operations.

This role includes three major areas of responsibilities:

Advanced Manufacturing Engineering: continuous improvement, optimization, New Product Introduction – a member of a HW & SW development team with objectives to increase productivity, improve product quality and raise Employee engagement

Stabilization and Sustaining: steadiness, maintenance and balance - Providing daily support and proactively maintain the product line ensuring safety, quality and delivery goals are met.

Retrenchment and product risk mitigation: economizing, reduction of costs & spending -accomplish more with less while foreseen and implementing resolutions for issues that may occur down the road

Responsibilities:

  • All about comprehensive ownership of your assigned product line and its technicians!
  • Continuous evaluation and improvement of manufacturing processes, while ensuring product meets the highest quality and delivery time
  • Apply knowledge of product design and assembly methods to the manufacturing process
  • Soliciting observations from technicians to point out and suggest resolutions that will solve and improve existing manufacturing problems
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, equipment layout, and safety as overall frame
  • Develop tools to analyze raw data and detect potential trends and insight, while collaborating to implement an application into a predictive analytics tool and troubleshooting guide
  • Initiate and collaborate with engineering teams to build model design, optimizing processes, and automating configuration and testing
  • Select analytical techniques and model methods best to solve automation challenges within manufacturing environment
  • Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) implementation processes from product design reviews for manufacturability, concept, development, pilot, launch and volume scale-up
  • Lead capacity expansion projects
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies
  • Assure product and process quality by implementing and executing testing methods
  • Keep production equipment operational and UpToDate by coordinating maintenance and calibration
  • Design and modify jigs, fixtures and tooling to improve manufacturing work methods and improve quality
  • Develop proactive maintenance measures and unique test fixtures to prolong equipment life cycle
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations
  • Completes design and development projects by training and guiding technicians
  • Calculate production time, staffing requirements material and equipment costs, reviewing production schedules as well as estimate future needs in those areas to provide information to management
  • Removing unsupported old, obsolete, required license SW utilities, replacing them with newly developed automation programs tailored to Brooks specific needs
  • Collaborate in development of new methods and SW tools that economizing the need of special HW purchase
  • Participate in cross-departmental meetings to help the company meet budgetary and performance goals

Education:

  • B.S. degree in one of these fields: mechanical / electrical / manufacturing engineering, or other related fields with relevant experience

Position Requirements:

  • Curiosity is your nature and possess a desire to learn and continuously improve
  • +3 years in engineering / manufacturing environment function
  • Hands-on manufacturing facility, experience in assembly lines and process development
  • Proven problem-solving skills with ability to troubleshoot complex issues and address root causes
  • Strong statistical background to process and derive out of data meaningful actions
  • Technical writing skills to document and update assembly work instructions
  • Knowledge of Visual Factory routes, configuration is desirable, will be expected to learn
  • LEAN manufacturing mind set, systematically strive to eliminat waste and creating flow in the production process
  • Familiarity with the following methodologies to optimize waste in production: JIT, 5S (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain), Kanban and lean 6 sigma (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control)
  • Hands on coding experience in Python or any other OOP, with proven abilities using scikit-learn and data frames
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, first piece inspection knowledge
  • Understanding of manufacturing scheduling, inventory management, yield analysis, capacity planning, and optimization
  • Proficient with design of experiment (DOE), gauge R&R, test method assimilations, as well as process verification and validation
  • Ability to estimate manufacturing costs including labor time, setup time and material costs in support of new product introduction
  • Verbal skills, be respectful to others, function within manufacturing, design, and quality engineering teams
  • Must be self-driven with capability of working under minimal supervision
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills with the ability to teach, train and develop others
  • Excellent organizational skills, capable of developing, maintaining, and reporting out on project plans and status
  • Candidate must have effective written and oral communication skills, capable in communicating to multiple audiences including senior management and customers.
  • Comfortable working with and around both mechanical and electrical equipment.
