Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. What we do:

The Autonomy research engineer is responsible for the innovation, design, development of algorithms and verification of architecture for aircraft flight automation including navigation, perception, path planning, contingency management, lost link, user interface and DAA.

What you can do:

  • Proactively research upcoming technologies, sensors, and techniques with the goal of creating ubiquitous positioning and perception systems for AAM use cases
  • Interface and evaluate various sensors (cameras, GNSS, lidar, radar)
  • Evaluate and experiment with various positioning techniques (SLAM, odometry, etc.) using these sensors
  • Explore and create new developments in sensor fusion technology optimally combining these sensors in a variety of combinations and configurations
  • Implement and research distributed resilient algorithms for AAM
  • Research and implement adaptive robust control and reinforcement learning techniques
  • Participate in the software architecture and design process of modular systems for embedded, desktop and hosted environments
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers working on software, algorithms, middleware and simulations
  • Develop competitive proposals and follow-on programs for R&D partners, including NASA, EASA and other government agencies and industry primes
  • Other duties as assigned

What you can contribute:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field
  • 5-8 years' experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for this role)
  • Strong knowledge of control systems
  • Experience with estimation and filtering techniques
  • Excellent scientific/technical writing and communication skills
  • Experience developing embedded software for aviation, automotive, or robotics applications
  • Experience with sensor calibration
  • Experience with highly automated systems
  • Strong C++ and Python coding experience
  • Experience with model based, code generation tools (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, SCADE)
  • Experience with DOORS, Rhapsody, and requirements-based design
  • Experience in simulations and verification methodologies
  • Experience with ISO 26262, DO-178C, or other safety-related software and product development processes
  • Proficiency with Git, Linux and embedded RTOS(s)
  • Strong proficiency in modern software development workflows and practices, including version control, build and test systems, and peer review
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive delivery of communication and follow up
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
  • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality

The pay range for this position is:

$166,400—$232,960 USD
