About the Team

Data Science & Analytics (DSA) at the Estee Lauder Companies (ELC) Online works in collaboration with ELC business partners to create actionable, results-oriented data science products. We leverage analytical and technical expertise to promote healthy living and help consumers express personal beauty. We bring software engineering best-practices to data science disciplines with a focus on sustainability, standardization, and generalizable solutions. Responsibilities

As a Senior Staff ML Engineer at ELC Online, you will be responsible for modeling complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities using statistical and machine learning methods. You will write efficient, clear code as well as accurate, mathematically rigorous technical documents to ensure deliverables meet customer needs and team goals. You have a passion for mentoring members of your team to achieve strong results and continued engagement. You set standards for scientific excellence and make decisions that affect the way we build and integrate algorithms. Your solutions are exemplary in terms of algorithm design, clarity, model structure, efficiency, and extensibility. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and product managers to translate business and functional requirements into concrete deliverables, including the design, development, testing, and deployment of scalable solutions. You will bring scientific rigor and structure to ambiguous business problems and address the challenges of product creation, development, and improvement with an appreciation for the behaviors and needs of our consumers. You will acquire data by exploring the universe of available data and building the necessary queries and pipelines. You will analyze data for trends and validity by inspecting distributions, exploring relationships, constructing appropriate transformations, and attributing meaning to anomalies. You will build models using statistical and machine learning methods, validate models against alternative approaches, and implement models that comply with the computational demands, accuracy, and reliability of the relevant processes at various stages of production. You are an effective communicator capable of independently driving issues to resolution and communicating insights to non-technical audiences. You tackle intrinsically difficult problems; you are interested in learning and will acquire skills and expertise as needed.

  • Utilize code (python, etc.) and apply statistical /machine learning expertise to solve business problems. Develop scalable tools to drive automation and optimize business operations.
  • At least 90% technical contributor, up to 10% management
  • Develop/deploy ML-driven systems to expand capabilities and facilitate analysis within a given domain such as: campaign effectiveness and incrementality, planning and forecasting, personalization, recommendation engines, pricing, fraud, and customer support.
  • Work with large, complex data sets. Solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems, applying advanced analytical methods as needed. Conduct analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables, and presentations
  • Contribute to the establishment of standards for writing clean, organized machine learning code and documentation to streamline machine learning workflow.
  • Develop and lead data science professionals to deliver data-driven solutions in support of established roadmaps.
  • Drive and promote a culture of testing, observability, and scalability with a data-driven mindset
  • Develop partnerships with engineering and product teams to deliver on major cross-functional automation, measurement, testing, and modeling efforts.
  • Actively participate in ELC’s diversity and inclusion agenda.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in a quantitative field; a plus if PhD or MS degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Operations Research, Bioinformatics, Economics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering) or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience (3+ with a graduate degree) in Analytics, Data Science or Software Engineering; including expertise with statistical data analysis such as linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, sampling methods
  • Substantial experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
  • 3+ years of experience with data scripting languages or statistical/mathematical software (Python, R, Matlab, etc.) and database languages (SQL, etc.)
  • Track record of delivering data-driven products and insights in a business environment and influencing product & engineering decisions.
  • Significant experience deploying and managing production-grade “Big Data” systems. Broad Knowledge of best practices in large- and small-scale data processing
  • Experience deploying Machine Learning solutions in a production environment. Proficiency in data structure & algorithm design.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in advanced machine learning topics including natural language processing, computer vision, or advanced statistical methods
  • Experience with statistical modeling, hypothesis testing, and experimentation. Experience designing a data science roadmap and leading technical execution in a business environment.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $132,500 to $221,000. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
