About the role

We are seeking an inquisitive Applied Scientist intern who will help us develop creative solutions to the broad business problems we are solving. Our team is at the forefront of solving everyday problems faced by a wide variety of renters and landlords. With your help, we hope to build methods that allow us to better identify and serve our consumers and their unique needs.

As an intern on you will get to:

  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers and Data Engineers to analyze terabytes of data to improve our understanding of how users use Zillow.
  • Efficiently collect and wrangle data in sophisticated formats from diverse sources to derive new insights
  • Build interpretable models to predict and explain effects of the real estate market on our Rentals Business
  • Interact directly with partners to understand problems first-hand

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

In Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City the standard base pay range for this role is $94,000.00 - $140,000.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City and may not be applicable to other locations.

Who you are

  • In the process of completing a Master’s or PhD in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Economics, Real Estate or a related field
  • Interested in working on innovative solutions to problems in the private real estate space 
  • Proficiency in statistics, applied models and forecasting
  • Proficient in scientific programming, including data manipulation, modeling, and visualization; Python and SQL strongly preferred.
  • Ability to conduct independent research and apply research methods to real-world problems.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and present results to both technical and non technical audiences.
