We are seeking a self-driven student that will rise to the challenge of improving the production process through empirical data. As a data scientist intern, you perform high-level data exploration, model experimentation, and strategizing along with a small but rapidly growing data science team. You will partner across the R&D org and be a critical contributor to the machine learning algorithms using our huge reservoir of point of sale transaction data. You will have the opportunity will help enable smarter products and operations in Toast that contribute to significant business impact for the restaurant industry. The team will also prioritize the professional development of this individual and provide insight on how to attain the tools and network to achieve their long-term goals.

About this Roll: (Responsibilities)

• Build proprietary data science models to drive business value for Toast and our restaurant customers 
• Collaborate closely with fellow data scientists, product, engineering, and others within the organization to build our restaurant technology platform 
• Work effectively in a dynamic, changing environment while focusing on key goals and objectives
• Effectively work with business and data science leads: strong communication skills, ability to synthesize conclusions for non-experts, and desire to influence business decisions

Do you have the right ingredients? (Requirements)

• Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Business Analytics, or similar discipline with a heavy quantitative concentration
• Experience building and deploying progressively complex and scalable machine learning models in production environments
• Experience with Python and SQL; knowledge of some of the following languages, tools, and frameworks: R, Spark, Scikit-learn, Tensorflow, etc.
• Knowledge of statistics and machine learning concepts including experimental design, hypothesis testing, regression, classification, and clustering
• Problem solver who loves to dig into different kinds of data and can communicate their findings to stakeholders in different departments
• Preferred prior internship or professional experience working in a data-intensive environment?
• Located in the Boston area OR remote in EST timezone

• Track record of taking ownership and driving results in an environment where tactical and strategic activities are expected to be driven in parallel
• On-point business judgment with strong written and oral communication skills
