Job Description
The Data Engineer-Data Warehouse Consultant position is viewed as an experienced resource in the development and execution of data warehouse related activities. Primary duties may include but are not limited to:
- Undertakes complex assignments requiring additional specialized technical knowledge.
- Establishes and maintains knowledge of data warehouse database design, data definitions, system capabilities, and data integrity issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels within the organization is strongly preferred.
- Instructs, directs and reviews work of less experience data warehouse analysts.
- Maintains information policies and procedures to support current and future data information needs.
- Ensures proper data definitions, ownership, use and integrity of data.
- Analyzes more complex business user needs, documents information requirements, facilitates the identification of potential gaps in available data and collaborates with business areas to determine best means for acquiring the data needed.
- Collaborates with IT resources on the creation and maintenance of the content of the data warehouse.
- Establishes and maintains excellent knowledge of data warehouse data structure design, definitions, capabilities, programming languages, and data integrity issues.
- Completes metadata assessment and reviews feedback to determine changes needed.
- Ensures that data definitions are clear and current and communicates changes to data definitions to all users.
- Collaborates with IT resources and data owners to define business objectives and definitions for databases including business rules, sources, purge archive criteria, and reload schedule.
Department Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Participate and/or take lead on all architecture, development and deployment in different Data warehouse implementations
- Maintains information policies and procedures to support current and future data information needs.
- Perform tests and validate all data flows and prepare all Datawarehouse processes according to business requirements and incorporate all business requirements into all design specifications.
- Documents all technical and system specifications documents for all Datawarehouse processes and perform unit tests on all processes and prepare required programs and scripts.
- Documents and maintains business definitions, data dictionary and metadata
- Solving complex technical data engineering problems by providing code changes and patch releases.
- Identify opportunities to automate and improve development processes.
- Owns the change request process and coordinate with other teams as necessary
- Maintains active relationships with business and cross team to determine business requirements and leads requirements gathering meetings.
- Performs technical design reviews and code reviews.
- Leads multiple or large projects and facilitates large group JAD sessions for requirements, modeling in several disciplines.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires BA/BS in related field
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in data analysis, data modeling, and working with automated data warehouse systems; or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experience
- Understanding of CI/CD tools, data governance and Agile project management skills.
- Experience in production support from Level 1 to Level 3.
- Experience in Health Care Domain preferred
- Minimum of 1 year’s hands-on experience with Cloud Technologies like AWS, GCP or Azure preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience with ETL Tool: DataStage, SSIS or similar technologies.
- Strong SQL and analytical skills. Experience developing APIs will be a plus.
- Hands-on experience in designing and implementing data pipelines in cloud platforms; in-depth knowledge of various core AWS services such as IAM, Cloud Formation, EC2, S3, ECS, EMR/Spark, SQS, SNS, Glue suite-ETL job, Data Catalog, Crawler, Data sync, Cloud Health, CloudWatch, Lambda, Athena, Quicksight, DMS and Redshift.
- Experience working with relational databases including Oracle, SQL Server, T-SQL scripts and stored procedures.
- Experience working in event driven architecture; hands-on experience working with JSON and tool - RabbitMQ
- Experience working with Sybase and MongoDB a plus.
