Job Description

The Director of Advanced Analytics will lead a team to build cloud-based business intelligence and data warehousing solutions for internal and external use for the Carelon organization. Team members will include data engineers and data analysts responsible for data ingestion and transformation, data enrichment including risk stratification and member grouping, semantic data layer design and development, and visualization / report development. The Director will also partner with the data science leaders and analytics leaders in Elevance Health to expand the use of data science and machine learning techniques across Carelon. The role is a key contributor to the design and the implementation of data governance and stewardship structures for the organization and will actively work to increase organizational analytics maturity and to build an insights-driven culture across Carelon. In addition to developing traditional self-service analytics solutions, the role will partner with Product Management, Information Technology, and other analytics leadership to develop a long-range analytics roadmap and budget including the introduction of composable and augmented analytic capabilities.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Works with various internal and external teams to collect, analyze, and interpret data sets. 
  • Synthesizes analytics into easy-to-consume storylines, both visually and verbally, and recommends actions for executive audiences. 
  • Develops technical definitions of key performance indicators to quantify financial and business outcomes. 
  • Resolves complex problems where the analysis of data or the development of analytics solutions requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors and the integration of diverse data sets
  • Establishes and communicates common goals and provides leadership, management, and direction for an analytics development team
  • Actively takes part in the development and implementation of best practice “insight to impact” analytics methodologies including portfolio management, data asset management, outcomes management, stakeholder value and storytelling, and use case / business integration.?
  • Selects, develops, and refines business intelligence, data warehouse, and data science related tools and deliverables.
  • Provides direction, training, coaching, and guidance for less experienced staff. 
  • Monitors project schedules and costs for the analytics project portfolio and proactively addresses issues, delays, and resource constraints. 
  • Builds and leads an analytics Center of Excellence including the implementation, training, and rollout of analytics tools and best practices. 
  • Contributes to thought leadership and marketing support by reporting quantified outcomes and documenting results.
  • Presents analytics results to business, technical, and executive leaders.

The individual in this role should have strong intellectual curiosity and be motivated to mentor staff and to evangelize analytical skills and best practices.

Requires a BA/BS and minimum 10 years’ experience leading evaluation/research/consulting projects and teams; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background

Highly preferred skills and experience:

  • At least 10 years of experience in healthcare data warehousing and business intelligence.
  • In-depth knowledge of consultative design and the data value chain within healthcare analytics industry./ Consultative experience in business intelligence and advanced analytics in the healthcare space.
  • Advanced degree in healthcare, business, information technology, data science, health research, or related field is required.
  • Understanding of multiple data sources and formats and excellent knowledge and understanding of data warehouse structures, data flows and standard business intelligence tools.
  • Understanding of cloud analytics architectures with experience with the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS preferred.
  • Understanding of and experience with cloud databases including Snowflake preferred.
  • Experience with SQL or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience using Google Looker, Tableau, or equivalent business intelligence visualization tools to develop advanced analytics applications.

Annual Salary Range*: $139,000 –$174,000

Actual compensation may vary from posting based on geographic location, work experience, education and/or skill level.
