Job Description

The Cloud and Big Data Software Architect is responsible for leading technical efforts related to modern data engineering, based on Cloud computing technologies. The candidate is expected to have demonstrated experience in the domain, with proven record of architecting data centric systems at Cloud scale, supporting complex use cases. Experience with public cloud environments, with a focus on the various data services and cloud native software architecture are important for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Architect complex data centric systems for both operational and analytical use.
  • Effectively participate in defining, designing, architecting and implementing cloud based systems. 
  • Master new and emerging technologies, and effectively apply them into new systems.
  • Be in the forefront of the happenings related to data. Ex: Be well versed with trends related to Cloud and Data technologies, such as Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, Data Meshes, Delta Lakes, Microservices, Kubernetes, API Gateways, etc. 
  • Act as a mentor to other team members
  • Effectively share knowledge through several mechanisms (both written and verbal).
  • Be the catalyst to instigate investigation into new technologies that have good potential for adoption.
  • Be a team player, open to working with people from across the globe, from different backgrounds. 

Required Skills

  • Expertise in designing complex cloud-scale systems, ability to articulate the choices made in compute, storage, messaging, security and the overall architecture. 
  • Expertise in one or more of the Big Data tools (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc) 
  • Expertise in relational SQL and NOSQL database solutions (including Postgres, Cassandra, Graph Databases, etc.) 
  • Demonstrated experience with Cloud native software and methodologies. 
  • Excellent experience in ETL/ELT pipeline building, scaling. Monitoring, etc. 
  • Expertise with data pipeline and workflow management tools (Airflow, Argo, Luigi, etc) 
  • Experience with (Realtime) stream processing systems such as Storm, Spark, spark-streaming, etc. 
  • Good experience with Data services from public cloud providers such as Azure, GCP, AWS.
  • Excellent track record of architecting systems with cloud native microservices (especially on Kubernetes). 
  • Deep expertise in one or more of the programming languages (Java, Python, C/C++, Scala, etc.). 
  • Desirable to have experience with ML tools (feature engineering, feature stores, model management, etc) 
  • Desirable to have experience with Graph Databases and working knowledge on Knowledge graphs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or higher in Computer Science or related with 3 – 12 years of relevant experience. 
  • Responsible for delivering architecture for multiple products/solutions within Schlumberger
  • Breadth of experience in the appropriate areas of the business
