Job Description

We have an opening for a fully funded PhD position at Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey, USA, for Spring 2023 or Fall 2023.

The recruited PhD student will be involved in projects funded by NASA and NOAA with a focus on river and lake ice mapping using optical and microwave satellites data. The candidate will use machine learning methods to map river ice and predict the formation of ice jams in the US and Canada. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to other projects with other local and regional stakeholders in the New York City area like the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The candidate will work with a team of researchers and graduate students at the Davidson Lab (https://www.stevens.edu/research-entrepreneurship/research-centers-labs/davidson-laboratory) and the iSMART Lab (https://web.stevens.edu/ismart/) at Stevens Institute of Technology.

The candidate should demonstrate strong knowledge in the fields of machine learning, remote sensing, and image processing in addition to excellent coding skills in Python, Matlab, and/or R. In addition, the candidate should demonstrate the capability to communicate scientific findings, preferably with previous peer-reviewed publications.
