With 45 million registered learners in 196 countries and a catalog of 4,000 digital programs offered by 230 partners (including 38 of top 50 universities in the world), our platform connects learners who want to learn with institutions who have best-in-class learning content. Our mission is to build the world’s best consumer centered higher education marketplace.

The Data Science team is uniquely positioned to help 2U achieve this mission:

  • A seat at the executive table: The Data Science team reports directly to the Chief Revenue Officer who leads Product, Marketing, and Data Science.
  • One-of-a-kind dataset: Our dataset spans the learner lifecycle (from discovering our learning products, through the applications process, student lifecycle, and graduation) across MOOCs, short courses, bootcamps, and degree programs for over 45 million learners.
  • Expansive and strategic remit: Data Science is chartered to relentlessly optimize 2U revenue operations by identifying and enabling product, marketing, and operational innovations through advanced analytics, experimentation and predictive modeling.

As a Director of Data Science: Growth, you will drive data science partnership with business leaders on the Marketing and Product teams tasked with making investment decisions to drive revenue growth and margin efficiency. We will rely on your leadership to expand our toolkit, enrich the strategic signal of our data, and lead a team that will use these core assets to have a big impact on the entire company’s productivity. This is a high-impact role for a self-starter in which you’ll have a direct influence on how marketing and product decisions are made. • Communicating insights clearly and effectively to cross-functional partners of varying technical levels.
  • Contribute towards advancing the Data Science discipline at 2U, including driving data best practices such as improving and automating analytical processes, building new data tools and data sets, data education around the company and mentoring and developing data folks.

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • A self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and the determination to initiate and lead projects to completion in a scrappy environment.
  • Experience leading high performing Data Science teams, with 3+ years people management experience.
  • Experience instilling a culture of ownership, collaboration, and results.
  • Expert communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams in a cross-functional environment.
  • Track record of delivering analytics products, influencing marketing and product decisions, and providing expertise and direction on analytics, data science, experimental design, and measurement.
  • Statistical knowledge and ability to guide the team to perform analysis using advanced techniques when needed, including sampling methods, causal inference, predictive modeling, and forecasting. Knowledge of when to use which statistical approaches, and drawbacks of possible methodologies.
  • Advanced degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or related quantitative field.
