Our Advance Technology Group will offer multiple doctoral-level intern research roles during the summer of 2023, working on an exciting array of technology areas.

As a Dolby intern, you could use signal processing and machine learning/AI to create immersive audio and visual experiences in the home or develop novel algorithms that synthesize technology that enables the next generation of Dolby products.

Eligibility:

Working towards a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; recent grads within six months of graduation are also eligible to apply. Must be available to work full-time, Monday to Friday, for three months between May/June – Aug/Sept 2023. 

What are we looking for in candidates

Along with your solid technical skills, candidates should demonstrate?problem-solving?and analytical abilities, good?communication?and?collaboration?skills, a?curiosity?for how and why things work as they do, and a passion?for audio, video, movies, music, or game technology. 

Areas of Focus

  • Novel image color/signal representations algorithms, and processing
  • Video pre-/post-processing algorithms with deep learning and computer vision to improve perceptual picture quality
  • Image/scene analysis, generation of metadata and/or hashing (can utilize machine-learning)
  • New neural network architectures, training methods, and algorithms in the areas of video processing and computer vision (image capture, restoration, display, and perception)
  • Analysis of neural network computational complexity vs. picture quality
  • 3D scene representations, novel view synthesis and rendering algorithms with deep learning and computer vision (NeRF, MPI, SH)
  • Novel computer graphics techniques for image rendering
  • Multi-modal (combination of video, audio, 360, and/or 3D) representations and algorithms
  • Human machine interface; sensor, identification/recognition/tracking, computer vision, and deep learning

Qualifications

  • Working towards a master’s/Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
  • Proficient in MATLAB/Python
  • Experience with image signal processing methods and design including feature extraction, segmentation, and classification
  • Experience with machine learning networks (PyTorch/Tensorflow/equivalent) for imaging a plus
  • Solid coursework or research background in color theory, human vision, perception, computational geometry, color transformations a plus
  • Programming experience with game engines (e.g. Unreal) a plus
  • Familiarity with 3D rendering libraries and CUDA/Metal programming a strong plus
  • Ability to prototype quickly, with adept critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented work ethic
  • Proven track record of writing technical reports and/or publications is a plus
