Job Summary

Dolby’s Vision Science Group investigates perceptual aspects of the human visual system and turns what we learn into technologies and products for improving perceived video quality. Understanding the relationship between science, art, and engineering is fundamental to doing this well. Our group is looking for a motivated and energetic engineer-scientist to join our team.

We are specifically looking for a talented and inventive individual to develop and improve algorithms for consistently presenting images on a wide range of display technologies and viewing environments. One of our key themes is to quantify, distill and reproduce the creative intent – the look and feeling that a content creator intended for their image, across the increasingly wide range of displays and environments that are used today.

 Responsibilities

  • Invent, design and develop algorithms for modelling, guiding and preserving the appearance of an image across a wide range of environments and display types.
  • Adapt and design algorithms to work within system constraints and develop demonstrations to showcase algorithm quality, design, and robustness.
  • Translate fundamental aspects of vision and color science into useful algorithms for maintaining video quality.
  • Run subjective experiments to quantify and/or validate human perception attributes.
  • Write software that is efficient, modular, bug free, understandable to others and well documented.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master of Science degree in Imaging or Color Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Graphics or a related field
  • Experience in building models with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch/Tensorflow along with extensive programming experience in Python
  • Understanding of human perception (how we see and interpret colors)
  • Experience using Matlab for image processing
  • Excellent communication skills; a team-oriented work ethic, and ability to work under minimal supervision.

We recognize that applying to internships can be a daunting process, especially if you have not had any previous internships, or if this is a new field of interest to you. Even if you do not have previous professional experience to meet the listed qualifications, we will consider relevant project, volunteer, and extracurricular experiences, and we encourage you to include them on your resume and apply.

ELIGIBILITY

Working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Imaging or Color Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Graphics or a related field; recent grads who are within 6 months of graduation are also eligible to apply. Must be available to work full-time Monday – Friday for 6 months between January 2023 - June 2023 in person.

Start date for the internship is as follows: (*note* this date is not flexible):

  • Monday, January 30, 2023
