Position description

The newly formed Division of Computational Pathology & AI at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester is seeking imaging data scientists for Faculty positions. The focus is to advance the field of medical imaging and its integration with multi-modal data within the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology and throughout the institution. The Division will serve as the academic home for highly collaborative, multidisciplinary faculty and staff who leverage data science, information, and digital technologies to enable translation and application of data, information, and knowledge within the fields of laboratory medicine and pathology.

With Mayo’s 2030 initiative of transitioning to a digital institution and large enterprise commitment to AI, successful candidates will develop and leverage digital tools to revolutionize the practice of pathology. This will be accomplished by working collaboratively with highly specialized internal and external multidisciplinary teams to develop and translate informatics discoveries to enhance our practice, education, and research.

These positions are centered within the strategic program called ANIMATE, in alignment with the Mayo Clinic “Bold. Forward. 2030” strategy. The primary objective of the program is to use multi-modal data to transform the practice of healthcare by enabling artificial intelligence throughout the care pathway, while setting the global standard for best-in-class integrated, AI-enabled patient care. The responsibility of the faculty position will be to lead the initial infrastructure/workflow build and develop AI algorithms to support a variety of clinical use cases for the ANIMATE program.

Qualified individuals should possess a relevant Ph.D./doctorate level degree and documented experience in developing AI for biomedical applications. Post-graduate training and/or experience is desirable. Ideal candidates must have demonstrated research expertise in computational pathology and/or radiological imaging. Excellent communication skills and the ability to both lead and collaborate with teams of scientists and other healthcare professionals are essential.

  • Develop multi-modal tools to improve the diagnostic practice of medicine

License or certification
