Job Description

The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub is looking for a curious, energetic and talented Scientist to join the Genomics Platform. Our mission is to continuously evaluate and integrate cutting-edge methodologies to enable utilization of high quality genomic measurements in all areas of biomedical research. We collaborate with researchers across the different platforms at CZ Biohub and our partnering universities, bringing state of the art technologies to high-throughput sample preparation, NGS and long-read sequencing, droplet and plate-based single cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics and multiomics pipelines. We are actively involved in various projects including data generation for single-cell atlases of model and non-model organisms, optimization of short and long-read sequencing pipelines resulting in strain-level identification of SARS-CoV-2, characterization of synthetic gut microbiota species interactions, and direct mapping of single cell identities using novel spatial transcriptomics technologies such MERFISH, Visium and Curio Seeker.

We are looking for a candidate interested in pursuing projects that leverage single-cell transcriptomics, histology, and spatial transcriptomics to advance the understanding of human biology. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, have a passion for novel work, and have excellent communication skills. You will 

• Work independently to research, design, and perform experiments that fit within the larger project goals
• Perform high throughput molecular biology techniques using various liquid handling robotics
• Perform cell culturing, cell sorting, and cryosectioning of tissue samples
• Improve existing protocols, maintain careful records, and develop new techniques/ protocols based on the latest technologies
• Work well and communicate clearly with others in a team, and with academic collaborators across multiple disciplines, especially the Data Science Platform
• Perform data analysis, interpret and present your findings in lab meetings, internal seminars and conferences.
• Partner, mentor and train junior scientists with different levels of expertise

You have

Essential –

• PhD (or equivalent experience) in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology or related field
• Experience with molecular, cell biology and/or synthetic biology techniques (DNA and RNA purification, CRISPR, PCR, qPCR, cloning, sample and library preparation for sequencing on various platforms)
• Experience with fluorescence microscopy, image analysis, fluorescence in situ hybridization, immunofluorescence, histology and spatial techniques (tissue culturing and processing, and cryosectioning)
• Detail oriented including the ability to understand a system of complex interactions and explain the understanding to technical and non-technical collaborators
• Experience with data analysis and visualization in Python (preferred) or R

 Nice to have –

• Understanding of cell biology and experience in tissue dissociation, single cell technologies and next-generation sequencing
• Experience with automation related to single-cell pipelines, including but not limited to liquid handling robots and cell sorting
