Job Description

The Data Architect role is part of Enterprise Architecture team in OCBC Group Operations and Technology division, focusing on the transformation the existing data architecture and build of the next generation data platform across OCBC Group to support the bank’s Digital Transformation.

You will contribute to the vision of modernizing the OCBC data architecture and develop a multi-year roadmap to bring that vision to life, collaborating with business and technology leads, application architects, data science and data engineering teams across the bank to enable large scale machine learning and analytics use cases.

You will function as a Subject Matter Expert for the organization, defining data platform processes and best practices – engaging stakeholders across the group to ensure their continued buy-in on strategic data initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute and support the roadmap to transform data architecture focusing on scalability, performance, and flexibility throughout the entire data life cycle (ingestion, storage and consumption).
  • Maintain data architecture framework, standards and principles including modelling, metadata, security, master, and reference data
  • Understand the different business use cases and patterns to provide concrete design for current and future needs
  • Work closely with data engineering team, Business Analysts and support the design aligning with the bank’s data architecture standards and principles
  • Contribute and support reference architecture as a set of patterns that can leveraged by diverse parts of the direction to create and improve data systems.
  • Take a lead in architectural designs solution context diagram and conceptual data model to optimize security, information leverage and reuse, integration, performance, and availability and ensure solutions developed adhere and aligns to the delivered architecture.
  • Consult and influence digital application teams regarding solutions. Collaborate with other staff to design and implement effective technology solutions, while using innovative business and technology processes to identify and implement improvement initiatives, eliminate redundancies, and maximize the reuse of data.
  • Provide training and share best practices across teams regarding data architecture design and solution implementation including review and quality assurance.
  • Develop and apply industry best practice technology, design, and methodology approaches to design bank’s data architecture. Research and recommend new emerging technologies, techniques and tools that will add value to the organization
  • Support operationally and provide architecture direction, input and governance into O &T groups including design, architecture, and development for the data platform This includes remediation, testing, data migration, system cutover, decommissioning and platform roadmaps.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience in designing and building high performance resilient data architectures. Understanding of how data architecture fits with other architecture disciplines
  • At least 2 years of experience in implementing data governance, standards and principles. Data Architecture / Governance design on the Cloud is an advantage
  • TOGAF/DAMA certification would be good to have
  • Strong data architecture and data modelling skills
  • Strong Experience with traditional data technologies (ODS, Data Lake, Data Warehouse. Data Lakehouse).
  • Experience in designing data patterns to support micro-service-based application architecture
  • Exposure in designing data patterns to support event driven micro-service-based application architecture
  • Track record in successfully building container-based big data architectures on top of Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge in designing systems to efficiently handle real-time and batch use-cases.
  • Exposure and understanding in the latest open-source technologies across the big data ecosystem, such as distributed storage, real-time event processing and large scale distributed OLAP engines.
  • Concept exposure to CDC, Data as a Service, data tokenisation, homomorphic encryption, data virtualization, data fabric and data mesh
  • Working knowledge of Analytics, AI and data science processes and best practices, with experience in building scalable architectures using data science workflow orchestrators
  • Working knowledge of architecture design of solutions for large ERP projects and programs; through expert knowledge translate high-level business requirements into data models and appropriate metadata, test data, and data quality standards.
  • Simplify the existing ERP data architecture, delivering reusable services and cost saving opportunities in line with the policies and standards of the organization.
  • Hands on experience on DevOps / DataOps / MLOps concepts
  • Familiarity with working in agile and waterfall approaches
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of business and technology trends
  • Good understanding of end-to-end application development - data integration for backend API development and front-end UI development
  • Expertise in RDBMS (Teradata/Oracle, PostgreSQL, Vertica etc), PL/SQL, data modeling & ETL/ELT, Snowflake, SingleStore or similar platforms
  • Expertise in Big Data Technologies like Hive, Pig, Impala, Spark.
  • Working knowledge on BI tools like Qlik/ Tableau/ Power BI.
  • Experience in performance tuning, capacity planning and sizing
  • Good understanding of cloud methodologies and experience with AWS or GCP tool suites and services
  • Embodies a collaborative approach in bringing both business and technology stakeholders together to deliver technology solutions that enable tangible business benefits
  • Data Integration & Federation: e.g. Informatica BDE, Python and other scripting and integration technologies
  • Data Repositories: e.g. SQL Server, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, cloud storage
  • Experience in implementing RESTful API and services using frameworks such as Springboot or flask
  • Exceptional communication skills and the demonstrable ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization; this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations.
  • Must be a team player able to work effectively at all levels of an organization with the ability to influence others to move toward consensus. Must be highly reliable, trustworthy, honest, and commitment oriented.
  • Strong situational analysis, decision-making abilities, and analytical skills
  • Ability to drive an independent project from an architectural standpoint.
