LS&Co’s vision is to be a data-driven company that applies analytics, machine learning, and automaton in making decisions, predicting and shaping desired outcomes across the business. We are looking for technology savvy data engineering leader who will lead our efforts in making highly reliable data and features (preferably with SLOs) available for our counterparts in data science for their model training, evaluation, validation and production deployment. We want this leader to envision how to deliver and operate “data as a product” and come up with strategies on how to remove model training and serving skew.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow a high performing global data/feature engineering team focused on making data and features available for model development 
  • Partner with product, data science and other stake holders on building our roadmap that aligns with both the AI/ML organization vision and that of our stakeholders
  • Build and deliver data and features to data science with a product mindset
  • Accountable to simplify data architecture and accessibility to accelerate data democratization that help support the exploitation of strategic and tactical business opportunities leveraging data in a secure and compliant manner.
  • Architect solutions that will enable efficient use our resources in the cloud
  • Leverage microservices and composable data architecture to ensure quality, traceability, timeliness, usability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Accountable for development, test, deployment, monitoring and support for implementing curated data layers for data science use
  • Build frameworks that will combine modular SQL with software engineering best practices to make data transformation reliable, fast and fun
  • Engage your team to construct the technical delivery roadmap and lead planning, delivery and continuous improvements
  • Balance calculated risks, trade-offs and consequences in prioritizing and optimizing for sustainable time-to-value and high-quality engineering
  • Maintain and continuously improve agile delivery and engineering practices
  • Attract, onboard, develop and retain diverse top talents, while fostering an inclusive and collaborative team culture

About You:

  • Overall 10+ years of experience as a data/ feature engineering leader who has work experiences in a dynamic organization with mature process. Broad business experience within the retail / ecommerce industry is desired.
  • Hands-on experience in building big data pipelines on GCP using technologies such as Vertex AI, Kubeflow, MLflow, Big Query, GCS, Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Dataflow, Dataproc etc.
  • Hands-on experience in Data Compute Frameworks, Databricks and NoSQL technologies.
  • Strong background in architecting, documenting and rolling out complex data engineering pipelines at scale
  • An established track record and multiple experiences across technical and people leadership, as well as building and operating large scale products or services
  • Previous hands-on technical leadership in building high performing and scalable data pipelines that are optimized for cost
  • Practical experience and ability to coach and advance best practices with TDD, CI/CD, performance and scale testing, etc.
  • Experience with building and delivering “data as a product”
  • Knowledge of architecting and delivering secure, scalable cloud-based data warehouses, data lakes, delta lakes, data fabric on GCP
  • Knowledge of feature engineering and data science workflows
  • Practical experience in hiring and developing engineering teams, as well as enabling an inclusive and diverse culture (in a fast-paced agile environment). 
  • You will be a natural collaborator and communicator with the ability to influence partners and peers at different levels.
  • An accomplished mentor and coach with proven performance management skills.
