Job Description

Perform, manage and co-ordinate activities for assigned opportunities/ projects. Perform data mining and analysis, formulate recommendations and present to internal and potentially external stakeholders. Train and support new team members / junior staff. Make recommendations for process improvements.

Essential Functions

  • Accountable to ensure IQVIA planning services are providing a competitive edge in winning new business. Take independent responsibility to provide senior level insights towards the development of country, and enrollment strategies in support of opportunities including but not limited to requests for proposals, early engagements, re-bids and potentially awarded studies
  • Support the development of materials related to feasibility and the enrollment strategy for customer bid defense meetings or internal customers such as Therapeutic Strategy Leads, Medical Leads, or business development
  • Lead and facilitate collaborative meetings while recommending solutions for key stakeholders and IQVIA project teams to resolve issues
  • Prepare for planning meetings by conducting complex research using databases, scientific literature, the internet, and expert medical knowledge
  • Discover and develop opportunities with peers across D&DI (internal business unit) to apply machine learning to design, build, test, and validate predictive models. As an expert, the associate director will not only be able to seek opportunities but also be able to write excellent code along with performing proper unit, functional, and integration tests for code to ensure quality
  • Demonstrate breadth knowledge across data science, have substantial depth and be a noted leader in one or more data science methodologies. The associate director will be the go-to resource within the D&DI team for their area(s) of expertise
  • Be a standard-bearer for data science and machine learning to ensure best practice is developed in their teams. Manage projects using agile and distributed decision-making balancing pace, rigor, and risk
  • Provide guidance on the appropriateness of data for the intended task and also to explore and evaluate it themselves. Be experienced in designing models that perform to a particular specification and be able to evaluate the model (architectures, cost-functions, etc.) that will best suit the problem at hand
  • Compare results from various methodologies, recommend best techniques to stakeholders, and be able to defend robustly in meetings with senior leaders
  • Mentor junior data scientists on the team, lead and inspire and be a key part of their development and retention
  • Connect and collaborate with subject matter experts from cross functional teams, offer, challenge, and solicit advice via peer review to enhance quality, share best practices and embed innovation

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science / Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML), Computer Science, Computational Biology, or related quantitative field, with 8+ years of experience (or PhD with 6+ years of experience)
  • Experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical/healthcare/diagnostics/health insurance space
  • Experience in designing, developing, and implementing analytical solutions using a variety of commercial and open-source tools. Proficiency in Python and SQL is essential.
  • Experience in manipulating data in a big data environment – experience in Hive, Impala, Hue and similar tech tools
  • Have Modeling and Analytics experience. In depth knowledge of modeling techniques and statistical principles
  • Experience with data visualization
  • Have considerable experience with insurance claims data, healthcare provider data and patient data. Familiar with medical coding, such as diagnosis code (ICD), procedure code (CPT, HCPCS, ICD, J-code) and product code (NDC)
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and capacity. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to drive projects through multiple layers within the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence effectively (verbal, written and presentation skills)
  • Experience with Excel, Power Point and Power BI
  • Leadership experience in the planning and direction of a project and effectively prioritizing goals
  • Ability to lead discussions at peer review and using quantitative skills to positively influence decision-making
  • Experience developing and embedding predictive models accounting for model or data drifts to ensure continuous deployment, and implementation
  • Experience with clinical study planning or study planning support would be a big plus
