Job Description

As a Manager IT, Head of Data, you will play a key role in the DTE Digital Factory by managing and building a team of data scientists that will develop business models across DTE through the Digital Factory. The Head of Data is responsible for leading a team of data scientists and data engineers that will build and implement advanced analytics capability for the Digital Factory.

Key Accountabilities

  • May provide direction to application developers, database administrators, systems analysts and design specialists as designated on various projects from internal or external partners. Develops and implements performance measures to assess individual and team performance. Based upon organizational unit needs, the role may be interchangeable with other managers within the IT organization.
  • Establishes a business relationship with client management in ITS to assure a thorough understanding of business drivers within the overall business climate at DTE Energy.
  • Manages and monitors work activities and day to day business operations to ensure on time and in budget solutions to client needs while meeting organizational and corporate goals.
  • Formulates and drives work unit goals and objectives, productivity measures, and work unit policy for areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for operational planning of the Information Technology organization.
  • Willing to participate in DTE Enterprise wide programs or projects, as needed.
  • Presents recommendations to enhance the business area's functionality and operating effectiveness.
  • Responsible for strategic/business planning in support of the related business units and translates plans into process/system requirements.
  • Must have an enterprise focus and ability to balance with individual business unit needs.
  • Manages programs for evaluating employee performance, implementing promotions, job changes and/or salary changes within areas of responsibility. Approves recommendations for new hires, initiating disciplinary action; and approves work unit goals and objectives, productivity measures, and work unit policy for areas of responsibility.
  • Manages staff development and productivity programs in order to develop and maintain a technically competent, motivated and highly productive work force to ensure the availability of resources to satisfy both the near and long-term requirements of client areas and the corporation in general.
  • Manages the implementation of new technology to the ITS Organization and consults on application projects to insure the application is utilizing the technology appropriately and ensures the application will integrate into the infrastructure.
  • Establishes and maintains business relationships with key technical industry representatives and DTE Energy IT organizations to support the application and delivery of technology to specific business areas.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of Information Technology related experience inclusive of 2 years of formal/informal supervisory and/or project leadership experience.

Preferred:

  • Preferred degree with an emphasis on coursework of a quantitative nature e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Econometrics, etc.)
  • Preferred 5 years of experience working in a data analytical or computer programming function with quantitative analytics (e.g., data mining, regression analysis, hypothesis testing, predictive modeling and model optimization)
  • Intermediate to advanced level knowledge and skills in data modeling, data structure, and the application of complex SQL queries with data from multiple sources, including Big Data platforms (e.g., Hadoop, AWS, Azure)
  • Experience providing guidance to data scientists and data engineers on Agile product teams to leverage data to obtain value add insights and improve velocity and delivery quality
  • Experience providing support to data scientists & engineers to solve new and challenging problems through an understanding of architecture, pipeline creation, and data quality within an Agile development teams.

  • Broad understanding of DTE industry, e.g. emerging technology industry standards, support services, business applications, systems design, and systems integration and an in-depth knowledge of Process & systems associated with area of responsibility.
  • Organizational skills and strategic and operational planning and budget experience.
  • Communicates effectively, ability to influence and build relationships to foster a positive work environment and drive change.
  • Ability to foresee, present, plan and execute IT opportunities in conjunction/on behalf of the business unit.
  • Capable of delivering world class IT solutions and eliciting support for acceptance of new technology and support services within the organization.
  • Knowledge of Operating System methodologies and tools is a plus.
