Join us as a Senior Data Scientist in the Climate and Data Technology team

  • Working as part of a growing modelling team, you’ll help the bank to make climate-first business decisions, helping to quantify the environmental impact of our lending and guide our customers to reduce their carbon footprint in an economically sustainable manner
  • You’ll be identifying and working with large, complex data sets to solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems, applying advanced analytical methods as needed
  • We’ll look to you to actively participate in the data community to identify and deliver opportunities to support the bank’s strategic direction through better use of data

What you'll do

As a Senior Data Scientist in the Climate and Data Technology team, you’ll be evaluating and improving business processes and products with a focus on how our business and our customers affect the world around us. You’ll be supporting and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on a wide range of business problems such as modelling the impact of climate change and identifying new and innovative ways to support our green transition.

You’ll also be:

  • Helping lead technical research projects, training junior data scientists and establishing best practices in a growing data science team
  • Communicating effectively across our functions and franchises to make business recommendations, gaining business buy-in to solutions tailored to customers' needs
  • Conducting analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specification in collaboration with business stakeholders
  • Iteratively building and prototyping data analysis pipelines to provide insights that will ultimately lead to production deployment
  • Identifying new methods, tools, techniques, and opportunities to deliver business value via cost reduction, income generation or improved customer experience through the application of data science

The skills you'll need

To succeed in this role, you’ll need evidence of previous project implementation and work experience gained in a data analysis related field as part of a multidisciplinary team. Additionally, you’ll hold a degree in a quantitative discipline such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, or physics, or you’ll have evidence of equivalent practical experience. Experience with handling climate data is advantageous, but not required, as is knowledge or experience of AWS, SQL, Tableau, and PySpark. Strong Python or R skills are essential. We are building a team that first and foremost believe in the mission of reducing environmental impact.

You’ll also demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience using advanced statistical techniques and machine learning models to help drive business decisions
  • Experience using programming software, database languages, big data technologies and cloud environments
  • Experience articulating and translating business questions and using statistical techniques to arrive at an answer using available data
  • The ability to demonstrate leadership, self-direction, and a willingness to teach others and learn new techniques
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt the communication style to a specific audience

The salary range starts at £46,500 plus 10% pension funding and 10% benefit funding, and you’ll benefit from flexible working options, and access to various training courses.
