Job summary

Amazon's Devices and Services HR is seeking a Sr. Manager, Product Management-Tech to join our team to innovate and create systems for more data-driven decision making specifically for the Talent Management, HR, Talent Acquisition and Diversity teams. We are looking for a leader with a strong technical background in data science, data architecture and analytics, as well as the ability to lead and coordinate the efforts of a team of skilled analysts, BI engineers, and data scientists.

You will lead a team of innovative technical experts who are improving the way organizations identify, attract, develop and retain talent. The Devices and Services People Analytics, Innovation and Research team unlocks the power of data with compelling insights that drive the business forward. You and the team will design and assess the effectiveness of people practices by understanding how data science drives more informed, objective people decisions for Talent Management, HR, Talent Acquisition and Diversity strategies. You will also apply your knowledge of business intelligence tools and processes to help scale and build the BI capabilities of the team.

You will partner across teams to ensure that our data is aligned to the strategic goals of the organization and you will be responsible for digging into the details for ways to improve the current state, expose new insights and drive recommendations that will impact the organizational strategies for innovative businesses.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead an energetic and skilled team of analysts, BI engineers and data scientists, providing structure and direction while enabling them to develop the best analytic products on behalf of their customers.
  • Partner with central teams to influence central HR systems teams’ strategies, representing the needs of the business units you support.
  • Learn and understand a broad range of Amazon’s data resources and know when, how, and which to use and which not to at any given time.
  • Supervise the creation and implementation of new reporting and analyses: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation.
  • Developing a 3 year roadmap for Analytics, to help the business and HR automate and scale
  • Being a role model for change and stakeholder management, coaching Managers and team to deliver for customers.
  • Be a “builder” as well as a leader – be a data and analytics expert that your team can turn to for inspiration and assistance. Be able to produce individual analytics work products as needed while continuing to manage the work of the team.

A day in the life

This role's primary focus is mentoring, guiding and coaching the team. They will help set goals, clarify expectations, remove barriers. They will also help set the strategy for the team for the next 1-3 years. They will also be responsible for finding insights in data and themes to regularly provide updates to senior leadership about what we should focus on as a PXT team. Leadership will be needed as the team transitions to Clarity, a new PXT analytics platform and this role will influence the strategy and represent Devices in the customer group.

About the team

The broader TIED team (Talent, Insights, Experience and Development) consists of Talent programs, People Analytics, Innovation and Research (PAIR) and Learning and Leadership (L&L) teams. The Analytics team (PAIR) is committed to delivering consistent TA, TM and DEI data and metrics and insights to customers to enhance how we attract, retain and develop talent in Devices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10+ years of experience in product or program management, product marketing, business development or technology
  • 6+ years of experience managing teams
  • Experience with end to end product delivery
  • Experience overseeing roadmap strategy and definition
  • Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product
  • Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product
  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical area such as Computer Science, Social/Behavioral Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or similar
  • 7+ years’ experience working with large-scale, complex datasets with an emphasis on data reporting and analytics, preferably in business operations or HR.

-Experience

  • Experience managing and leading teams with varied abilities and skill sets
  • Experience designing and developing business facing dashboards, and data visualizations in BI platforms such as Tableau, Shiny, MicroStrategy, OBIEE or comparable tool
  • Experience with data mining and creating/optimizing operational analytics and data models
  • Experience in using SQL to analyze data in a database or data warehouse
  • Experience in data modeling (ER diagrams, database design) for ad-hoc, visualization, and analytical applications.
  • Strong skills using Microsoft Office products, specifically in Excel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or higher a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Operations Research, Social/Behavioral Science, Statistics, or Computer Science
  • Strong communication and data presentation skills, experience analyzing data and communicating the results to senior business leaders
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of database design and management
  • Ability to create, maintain and disseminate information to senior business leaders for multiple projects/work streams at one time
  • Experience analyzing large data sets to find trends, themes and insights that drive business outcomes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; high quality document and report preparation
