We are looking for an inquisitive, life-long learner with a keen interest on evidence-driven decision-making, e-commerce, marketing, and causal inference. We are seeking an Applied Scientist with e-commerce industry experience to help build scalable ML solutions and advance the state-of-the-art in off-site marketing measurement.

In the spirit of insisting on highest standards for measurement and insights, and of building consistency across marketing portfolios, the Customer Behavior Analytics (CBA) organization is creating a new function that will take on the challenge to build the best Measurement Mechanism in the industry across all marketing channels, geographies, and businesses in Amazon. This is a role to help flesh out a nascent new program that aspires to be the beacon for the industry. So, this is a genuinely unique opportunity for candidates to emerge as world-class experts in marketing measurement.

You will be comfortable with big data systems, intimately familiar with advanced machine learning and statistical methods, and experienced in applying these to solve business problems. You will have a strong bias towards customer obsession and delivering results while dealing with ambiguity in fast-paced dynamic environments.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable solutions using statistical/ML models to measure the business impact of cross-channel marketing investments.
  • Work closely with business units and engineering teams to understand and correctly frame the marketing measurement problems and formulate their corresponding technical solutions.
  • Develop a library of measurement, decision-making, and machine learning algorithms and tools to enable data-driven decision making.
  • Lead the scoping, design, development, and deployment of software solutions and tools on our unique big data platform to efficiently generate timely and invaluable insights for decision-making systems at Amazon
  • Innovate and/or invent ways to overcome technical limitations and enable new forms of analyses and methods to drive key technical and business decisions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD or equivalent Master's Degree plus 4+ years of experience in CS, CE, ML or related field
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD degree (CS, AI, ML, OR, Statistics, or related field) with 2+ years of applied research experience, or a Master's degree and 4+ years of experience of applied research experience
  • 1+ years of experience in building ML models for business applications
  • Advanced proficiency in statistical modeling, experimental design, and machine learning algorithms
  • Hands-on experience in using object-oriented programming languages such as Java, C++, Python or related language
  • Hands-on experience in building ML models with web-scale datasets and deploying these models to production environment
  • Experience in owning end-to-end business problems/metrics that directly impact the company or organization* Expertise in causal inference
  • Experience in leading a small team of applied researchers or scientists to complete a project of sizable impact to the company or organization
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices across the full software development life cycle
  • Publications or presentations in top Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Data Mining journals/conferences
