Position description:

Calico is inviting applications from exceptional scientists who wish to contribute towards the identification and validation of therapeutic immuno-oncology targets, as well as the development of (pre-)clinical assets related to those targets. The selected candidate will assist in the design, creation, and execution of innovative approaches to explore target-related biology and answer basic questions in the immuno-oncology area. The successful candidate will apply functional genomic, cell biological, and molecular biological techniques, in the context of both in vitro and in vivo models, to contribute to the understanding of mechanistic activity of potential therapeutic targets. The successful candidate will contribute expertise to cross-functional activities within the team and the broader Oncology department. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in and contribute novel research activities to collaborative projects with our company partners.

Position requirements:

  • Applicants should have completed a BS or MS degree in immuno-oncology, immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, or a related field, with 4+ years of academic and/or industry experience (2+ years for MS).
  • The ideal candidate will also have a track record of strong productivity in immuno-oncology, immunology, or oncology related research, including significant contributions to impactful scientific publications.
  • Requisite skills include significant prior experience with mammalian cell culture, CRISPR technology, multi-color flow cytometry, and molecular biological techniques. Prior experience with human and mouse primary cell culture, including immune cells is desirable.
  • Prior hands-on experience with common mouse tumor and disease models is also desirable. 
  • The ideal candidate will be familiar with SnapGene, Prism, and FlowJo. Prior experience analyzing NGS data (including, but not limited to, bulk RNAseq) is highly desirable. Competency with Python and/or R is a significant plus.
  • The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic team player comfortable in a fast-paced, collaborative research environment, with excellent attention to detail and excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • The successful candidate must possess excellent time management skills to concurrently handle multiple projects.
  • Must be willing to work on-site at least four days per week.
