Job Description

Seeking a Data Scientist intern to join our Manufacturing For Future (M4F) team.

You will be located in our plant in Rodange, Luxembourg and will report to Anthony Houdaille.

You will partner with the automation, the IT, the Quality and the Process departments in order to help Avery Dennison’s digital transformation. You will apply validated and bespoke techniques to analyze large dataset, gain deeper insights, influence smarter decision making, and develop data driven lab experiments, prototypes, and solutions to sophisticated business challenges. You will also apply your analytical aptitude, acquired business knowledge, and suitable machine learning methods to train models, test them, and deliver results back to the business in a tangible and coherent manner.

Responsibilities Include:

Solutioning

• Leverage off-the-shelf tools or develop custom programs to gather, clean, normalize, and prepare data from disparate sources for analysis.
• Assess available data, remediate data adequacy, effectiveness, and accuracy issues, and optimize and improve products, processes, and operations across.
• Mine and analyze data using state-of-the-art methods, develop and implement custom data models and algorithms to apply to datasets.
• Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize factory operations and throughput.
• Build and implement automated scoring using machine learning techniques, recommendation systems, classifiers, A/B testing frameworks, and tools to monitor and analyze model performance in a repeatable and reusable manner across the enterprise
• Doing ad-hoc analysis as required and presenting results in a clear manner

In order to successfully accomplish your missions, you will be in contact with different departments of Avery Dennison Materials, and will take into account the industrial and other constraints, specific to the site. While being supervised and accompanied on the use of tools and the advanced realization of analysis, a significant autonomy and a good sense of organization will be required.

Qualifications

• Master’s (preferred) or Bachelor's Degree (required) in Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or equivalent degree with a data science focus is required. You have a first relevant experience (internship or apprenticeship) in a manufacturing industry.
• You have previous experience (work experience or academic project) with machine learning techniques and algorithms and with common packages for data manipulation/munging, testing/analysis and visualizations
• You have an analytical mind and can present data in a simple and coherent way
• You have excellent skills in applied statistics, such as distributions, statistical testing, statistical modeling, etc.
• You also have a good understanding of time series, machine learning techniques, neural networks and deep learning.
• You are rigorous, autonomous and a team player 
• Fluent in English is essential, French is a plus.
• You have the ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
• Good knowledge of Python will be highly appreciated and experience with RapidMiner would be a plus.
