As an engineer on the SRE team, you’ll build capabilities that enable our team to ship code with ever-increasing speed, security, durability, and observability. We believe in experimenting with ideas as long as it makes our teams work faster, and improves quality and stability . As one of the first engineering hires on the team, you’ll have the opportunity to help guide technical direction and culture, grow the team, and see your contributions make immediate impact.

Overall, we’re a small team (more of a startup than a telco team), but growing rapidly and frequently punch above our weight. We operate within a (mostly) flat org so your growth opportunities are entirely up to you – we’ll be there to support you along the way.

This position can be located in Bellevue, WA or Denver, CO.

Responsibilities

• Work in production systems and know how to safely navigate them.
• Experiment with ways to help our code run faster and improve its stability.
• Get your hands dirty on a high-performing SRE and systems architecture team.
• Support services before they go live by providing system design/architecture guidance, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
• Maintain services once live by measuring/monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health.
• Improve engineering processes and tools to accelerate software development velocity.
• Maintain and continuously improve build tools and automation infrastructure.
• Work with a cross-functional team of developers, data scientists, UX/UI designers, sales, and support analysts daily.
• Graciously support technical and non-technical end users with any issues they run into.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience
• 5 years of experience deploying production grade systems within cloud and non-cloud environments.
• 4 years of experience with Kubernetes (or similar) in distributed computing environments.
• Can be empathetic to our developers and understand their pain points because you have written code.
• Solid knowledge of SDLC (VCS, code review, etc) and DevOps/SRE (CI/CD, telemetry, etc) principles.
• 4 years of experience working with *nix operation systems and network (TCP/IP, routing, etc)
• 4 years of experience working with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet
• 4 years of experience working with containerization technologies such as LXC, Docker, Mesos, or similar.
• Ability to develop creative solutions around distributed/edge computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, and/or security.
• Ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks.
• Believe workarounds for users are hacks and should be fixed properly.
• Love experimenting with the latest and greatest tools.
• Have experience identifying performance bottlenecks and security issues.
• Have experience with monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, and Splunk.
• Can work autonomously when needed without excessive supervision.
• At least 18 years of age
