What we do:

Migo is a cloud-based platform that enables companies to offer credit to their consumer and small business customers. Leveraging proprietary datasets, Migo builds ML algorithms to assess credit risk, and then offers credit lines to the companies’ customers. This credit line can be used to make purchases from a merchant or to withdraw cash without the need for point-of-sale hardware or plastic cards. Because of our proprietary data and innovative technical solutions, Migo is able to extend credit to underbanked customers who are not typically covered by credit bureaus.

What you will do:

As a Data Scientist, your main objective will be to maintain, optimize and enhance scoring models that power Migo’s lending platform. In addition, you will be responsible for monitoring and responding to fraud occurrences for new and repeat borrowers. This is an ideal role for a creative and enthusiastic problem solver who wants to leverage their passion for mathematics and engineering to help Migo achieve its mission to democratize credit. Migo is a remote-first company and this position can be worked from anywhere in the United States!

Your main responsibilities will be to:

• Design, develop and maintain machine learning models for onboarding new partners, increasing customer eligibility, and long-term profit
• Creatively leverage new and existing data sources to improve portfolio performance
• Use a rigorous scientific mindset to efficiently experiment and generate insights to enhance origination strategy (e.g., reduce fraud risk, or increase customer retention)
• Collaborate with internal and external partners, as needed, to launch and improve credit models

The Technical Requirements for the role are:

• A degree in a quantitative field such as math, statistics, physics, or computer science (all levels welcome, from bachelor’s to PhD)
• 1+ years of experience in a production environment making predictions based on past and/or present data through the development of statistical and/or mathematical models
• Theoretical and applied knowledge of supervised machine learning algorithms
• Experience with SQL
• Experience writing production code in Python
• Independence of thought, curiosity and scientific thinking
• Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly
