Job Description

Intern, Computational Biology role at South San Francisco, CA.

As an Intern in Computational Biology at Freenome, you will take part in the development of early, noninvasive tests for cancer detection. You will use your experience in computational biology to study molecular signatures of cancer from Freenome’s best-in-class molecular assays. You will work closely with other computational biologists to study and improve computational models and assays, contributing to products that may ultimately be used in the clinic.

How you’ll contribute:

  • Perform computational analyses of molecular assays such as whole genome sequencing, whole genome bisulfite sequencing, targeted sequencing, RNA sequencing, and protein quantitation.
  • Perform studies to evaluate, characterize, and model the aforementioned data types in the context of cancer biology and progression, working closely with other computational biologists.
  • Work with other computational biologists to apply statistical tools for biological interpretation, such as pathway analyses, protein-protein interactions, and functional interpretation.
  • Gain valuable experience in diagnostics-focused research in industry.
  • Internship will last 2-3 months during summer 2021.

What you’ll bring:

  • M.S. or PhD-in-progress in a relevant, quantitative field such as computational biology, cancer biology, statistics, bioinformatics, or equivalent.
  • Experience in the analysis of high-throughput, quantitative technologies in genomics, epigenomics, proteomics, or transcriptomics (e.g. Hi-C, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, MS).
  • Research experience in molecular biology and cancer biology, with fundamental understanding of the central dogma.
  • Strong quantitative reasoning and data analysis skills, with a demonstrated ability to apply them effectively to relevant scientific problems.
  • Strong computational and programming skills, including thorough experience with Python statistical packages (Numpy, Matplotlib, Pandas) or equivalents in other languages like R or C/C++.
