Job Description

Reporting to the Data Engineering Manager, the Senior Data Engineer is responsible for analyzing, validating, cleansing the ETL of Enterprise data into our Finance Application and creates validation reports utilizing database technology and financial software. Create small datasets that the firm can use to retrieve and analyze data using Tableau dashboards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for working with and mentoring our BI developers and data engineers in optimizing data sourcing and transformation that create an efficient, effective data organization.
  • Collaborate with analysts and business intelligence to optimize the sourcing and consistency of KPI’s which will drive informed business decisions across the organization.
  • Design, develop, test deploy and maintain large scale data sets for the firm by collaborating with the internal departments and external vendors.
  • Develop and maintain reports using SSRS and Tableau.
  • Develop SQL queries, stored procedures and functions as required for the reports and Tableau dashboards.
  • Design and develop ETL processes and data structures following best practice procedures.
  • Examples of experience in handling structured and unstructured data.
  • Experience with data integration (ETL), data modeling, data quality, data governance, Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), and Analytical tools.
  • Good understanding of data structures, data integrity and indexing with the ability to write efficient stored procedures and views.
  • Utilize SSIS, SSRS and SSMS for ETL, Reports and Analysis of data.
  • Ability to develop applications to support the report delivery to the end-users through Sharepoint sites.
  • Ability to write Power shell scripts
  • Be a knowledge resource and facilitator for data retrieval in support of all administrative business units.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive working knowledge of SQL and data Engineering skills with ability to solve problems.
  • Extensive working knowledge and understanding of SSRS and SSIS to transform report requests to quality SSRS reports
  • Tableau experience a plus.
  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exhibit strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strive to add value, build efficiency, and improve accuracy and reliability of information for the firm.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and build relationships with clients, attorneys, internal departments, and vendors, while maintaining confidential information.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards for research quality.
  • Demonstrate ability to take information from a wide variety of sources and ensure products are crisp, succinct, and client-ready.

Education and/or Experience:

  • BS or BA in Computer Science, Management Information Systems; MS preferred.
  • Six (6) or more years of relevant work experience with ETL, Data Integration and migration and strong SQL.
  • Experience with creating and deploying ETL processes using SSIS required.
  • Hands on experience retrieving data by writing complex SQL required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as MS Excel, SSRS, and Power Shell.
  • A blend of technical and business skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills, developed from experience in data analysis, database design, and application development.
  • Experience with Aderant and law firm a plus.
