Job Description

SAP America, Inc. seeks a Senior Data Scientist at our Plano, TX location responsible for working in customer projects, lead small project teams or work streams in the execution of our customer projects and participate in such projects as a key individual contributor.

Expectations and Tasks:

Execute the mathematical modeling of customers business problems, develop algorithms, data mining flows and applications to solve these problems, and help customers directly to understand and implement the results of the analysis. Work directly with industry experts and technology experts to translate customers business needs into mathematical models and present and deliver a solution to the client. Act as a supporter and expert advisor to SAPs sales force to generate new customer business in the area of data science. Work in development and be responsible for work packages related to Data Mining topics or acts as a key contributor. Specify and design data mining methods and integrating or implementing these into products. Create prototypes and work closely with the engineering team to deliver them as features into the product. Evaluate and define test strategies for delivering high quality product features / capabilities of the product. Evaluate and test data mining methods and maintain a high level of quality. Create data definitions and contribute to data storage infrastructure for data mining purposes and to Data Mining architectures. Resolve data mining performance issues and monitor data mining system performance and implement efficiency improvements. Implement data mining algorithms if required. Work closely with product management, application developers, Information developers and end users. Perform functional and empirical analysis on data mining topics. Conduct research on data mining tools and algorithms, implements prototypes and data mining algorithms and validates them on real data. Create best practices for data mining topics and collaborate with development, universities, and research institutes. 60% travel required.

Education and Qualifications/Skills and Competencies:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field of study and 6 years of experience required. The company will also accept a Master's degree and 4 years of experience.

Work Experience:

Experience must involve 4 years in the following: Statistical, Programming and Data management leadership;

• Functional and Empirical Data Analysis, including Exploratory Analysis, Forensic data analysis to detect test cheating in assessments etc.;
• Develop statistical outlier detection techniques;
• Oversee small group of machine learning researchers;
• Design, Develop and Test machine learning methods;
• Design classifiers for identifying intrinsic data patterns;
• Develop methods for fusing data, selecting features, and identifying analogous attributes which produce similar information for machine learning applications;
• Design and develop natural language algorithms (Applications in scoring essays, topic modelling etc.);
• Data Science/Machine Learning Project management;
• Cloud Computing Architectural experience;
• Programming for Statistical Analysis, Visualization and algorithm development; Machine Learning Research and Development;
• Execution of Customer Projects as individual Key contributor; Mathematical modelling of customer business problems;
• Connect with industry experts and technology experts to translate customer’s business needs into mathematical models;
• and Machine learning advisor to generate new customer business in data science area. Experience must also include:
• Design and Develop architecture and workflow of automated scoring systems: a machine learning approach;
• and Proposal writing, authorships in patents, research publications and scholarly presentations. 60% travel required.
