Job Description
LinQuest designs and develops data architectures that provide value to our clients by focusing first on understanding their business processes and working to model those business processes to provide data structures that deliver exceptional insights. We focus on several data design objectives such as flexibility, availability, data quality, performance, extensibility, and security as we transition into physical design concepts. Our data practitioners are involved in a wide range of activities, ranging from data engineering, data modeling, database/ETL development, data analysis, BI development and data governance. These skills are leveraged across of range of projects, such as large-scale enterprise data warehouses, data marts, data lakes, and application development. LinQuest data architects collaborate with Operations Research Analysts, Software Development Professionals, Data Scientists, and DOD Subject Matter Experts.
Responsibilities may include:
- Lead the design and development of a data architecture for one or more projects.
- Provide strategic direction and technical guidance to a team of data professionals, while continuously staying engaged with modern design principles, new technologies, and best practices across the array of data management competencies.
- Collaborate with other domain experts, such as Operations Research and Software Development professionals, to ensure the technical data architecture is effective.
- Lead and mentor “Junior” and “Mid-level” data architects
- Consult with clients to understand their needs and then develop and communicate an execution strategy with team members.
- Understand data management best practices and work with their teams to actively promote them.
Required Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with
- Hands on experience in data extraction and transformation essential for a data environment.
- Experience with building production ready systems in large scale data environments and leading agile development projects.
- Must have the ability and motivation to self-teach in order to stay current with leading best practices in the database industry.
- Candidates must be able to tackle difficult problems and provide both strategic and tactical guidance to team members.
- Expert data management skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions with clients and stakeholders through strategic discussions related to data architecture, and data governance providing insights related to current state, options for future state, and discussions about the most logical progression to meet those goals.
- Must be comfortable providing direction in a team environment as well as presenting complex ideas to senior level clients.
- Must have a positive attitude and willingness to mentor other mid-level and junior teammates.
Valuable Technical Skills:
- Relational Databases ( PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Amazon RDS, Oracle, Teradata, etc.)
- Unstructured Databases (Neo4J, MongoDB, Amazon SimpleDB, Cassandra, MarkLogic etc.)
- Experience with Cloud Platforms such as AWS or Azure and tools like Databricks.
- Python Programming/Shell Scripting
- ETL Tools (Talend, Informatica, Microsoft SSIS, DataStage, etc.)
- Data Modeling Tools (ERwin, Sparx Enterprise Architect, Toad Data Modeler, etc.)
- BI Tools (Tableau, Business Objects, Cognos etc.)
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of experience with data engineering, database design, or ETL design activities within a professional environment
- Expert understanding of data management best practices
- Experience leading teams through data architecture projects
- Experience with Devops/Agile
- Data mart design and implementation
- Designing and implementing ETL processes
- Performance tuning for large data sets
- US citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD secret clearance
Preferred Experience:
- Professional experience as a data architect supporting the US Government or the DoD
- Neo4J, Postgres, Databricks a plus
- Python
- Designing and deploying data applications within a cloud environment
- Implementing, or working within, a data governance framework
