This position requires an individual who is self-motivated and logical thinking and would enjoy working at the intersection of complex problem solving, advanced statistics, and computer programming. Engineers in this group work as part of a development team to define, analyze, and productize the latest recording head technology for critical data storage. Engineers frequently use statistical and advanced analytical methods to collect, combine, and assess large amounts of production data for predicted performance tracking, product decision making, system optimization, and business process efficiency improvements. The team is a key component of answering questions concerning how a distributional change in one parameter will influence product performance and yield throughout the rest of the downstream system.

About the role - you will:

  • Working with the process team to define, track, and analyze recording head experiments, as well as investigate problems.
  • Interacting with cross-functional organizations to ensure that drive requirements including yield, performance, and reliability goals are met.
  • Analyzing component test data and making recommendations to the technology, process, and drive system integration teams.
  • Collaborating with product drive design center on head integration for Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) and conventional Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR)
  • Preparing, presenting, and defending data and conclusions across Seagate sites, as well as reporting progress on new technology to all levels of management.
  • Possibility of limited foreign and domestic travel.

About you:

  • In-depth, demonstrated experience of magnetic or device physics including HAMR is desired, with strong preference given to magnetic recording industry experience.
  • Proficiency in Data Science skills like Machine Learning (ML) or Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques.
  • Experience in statistical related software such as JMP or R, and/or programming languages like Python.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills through team leadership or project management.
  • Experience in product development, device integration, and/or electrical test data characterization.

Your experience includes:

  • Masters / Ph.D. (New Grad) in Physics, Material Science, Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, or related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Driven problem solver, self-motivated learner
  • Demonstrated teamwork and ability to work independently
  • Ability to read logical concepts of computer code / SQL queries
