Investment Research

Looking for an outstanding opportunity to acquire hands-on experience with fundamental analysis and the investment research process? Fidelity’s investment research internships give interns the chance to acquire the core research skills needed to begin a successful and exciting career in investment management.

Investment Research Interns support investment decisions by building financial models, completing financial analysis, and conducting proprietary research. These internships give maximum exposure into the holistic research process through collaboration with research analysts, portfolio managers, traders, quantitative research analysis, and investment support associates.

The Group

Fidelity's Equity Division is responsible for handling more than 130 diversified mutual funds and more than 78 industry specific funds. Assets under management total approximately $788 billion.

Responsibilities

The ESG Research Associate Internship Program is a 10-week internship crafted to recruit dedicated, hardworking undergraduates to develop the following skills through training and direct work with our asset management investment professionals across equity, fixed income, and high income:

  • Perform in depth fundamental research on portfolio companies.
  • Engage companies and publish research, findings and general ESG research support to the Equity, Fixed Income, and High Income investment teams.
  • Responsibilities include capturing relevant industry data, publishing insights on variety of sustainability issues and trends, and advising portfolio managers and analysts to evaluate how these issues may impact investment theses.

In addition to gaining exposure to the different asset classes and sectors within asset management (consumer, communications, industrials, etc.), the internship will be composed of the following elements:

Training

  • Combined 2 weeks: Core training program in Boston covering: standard methodologies in research, three-day course covering Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis and hands on skills for financial modeling. This is done in conjunction with other investment interns across Equity, High Income, and Fixed Income.
  • ESG training covering:
    • Identifying ESG material factors
    • Structuring company engagements & collaborating with analysts and PMs
    • Approaching company and thematic ESG notes
    • Using Bloomberg and other ESG-specific tools
  • Ongoing learning opportunities throughout the summer
  • Mentorship
  • Exposure to Portfolio Managers and investment thought leaders

Education and Experience

  • Class of 2024 Bachelor’s degree candidates
  • Interest in growing knowledge of fundamental research and investment management
  • Shown initiative in studies and extracurricular activities related to financial markets
  • Intellectual curiosity and dedication to continuous improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding social skills
  • Proactive; seeks additional responsibilities and learning opportunities
  • Proven success during their academic career
  • High levels of integrity
  • Prior internship experience in corporate setting

Conversion

Successful interns may receive an offer at the end of the summer internship to return as a full time Research Associate post-graduation.
