Job Description

We are an agile and high-performance team using Python programming language with Flask, Django, Celery, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch on the back end and ReactJS on the front-end. As part of our work, you will contribute to open-source projects and collaborate with CERN Information Technology department.

You will contribute to the development and operation of the different services in the section (including INSPIRE, CERN Analysis Preservation), live systems with thousands of users every year, with high throughput REST APIs, and a state-of-the-art UX. This will consist of working closely with our collaborators from different institutions to design, develop, and deploy services and tools strive to help research community.

Qualifications

Eligibility criteria

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
  • You have a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other related field;
  • You have no more than 4 years’ experience after completing your highest diploma.

Essential skills and experience

  • Demonstrated professional experience with front-end development and the following technologies: JavaScript, React and Typescript;
  • Solid knowledge in XHTML, CSS, and web technologies;
  • Experience with consuming REST APIs;
  • You value learning and sharing knowledge with colleagues, following best open-source collaborative practices and egoless programming.

Desired skills and experience

  • Experience coding in higher-level languages (e.g., Python, Java, or C++);
  • Container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift);
  • Relational and document-based databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch).

Please note that CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship

Additional Information

CERN would very much like to benefit from your expertise, commitment and passion.

In return, CERN will provide you with:

  • An employment contract for between 6 months (minimum) up to 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months.
  • A stipend ranging from 5,321 to 6,606 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
  • Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva.
  • 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
