Data Scientist, Analytics (Overstock.com, Inc., Midvale, UT)

Ingest large volumes of data, identify the critical signal in all the information, and then act on the signal to drive millions in growth or savings. Gather, clean, report, and interpret data rapidly and thoughtfully Perform ad hoc analyses using statistics, machine learning, and data mining techniques. Use strong communication skills (written and verbal) to partner with product, engineering, and business teams to solve problems and identify opportunities. Perform analysis and build models to inform prioritization and planning of the product roadmap. Design and analyze experiments to generate actionable outcomes. Design A/B tests across various products to validate the performance of predictive, classification and forecast models. Perform self-directed ad-hoc analysis to identify drivers of business outcomes. Report findings, recommendations, and conclusions resulting from analysis. Construct informative and insightful visualizations. Extract, transform, load (ETL) and analyze large-scale data using SQL, Hadoop, BigQuery, and related tools. Build tools that enable other teams to perform and understand analytics. Utilize statistical software and programming such as R or Python. Perform other duties as required and assigned by manager and upper management. Telecommuting may be permitted. When not telecommuting, must report to Overstock.com, Inc. at 799 West Coliseum Way, Midvale, UT 84047.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree or U.S. equivalent in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or related field plus 3 years of professional experience working with structured data to perform statistical analysis, develop predictive models, and provide business insights. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of experience, the employer will accept a Master's degree or U.S. equivalent in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or related field, plus 1 year of professional experience working with structured data to perform statistical analysis, develop predictive models, and provide business insights.

Must also have the following:

  • 1 year of professional experience extracting data from a standard data warehouse (over 100 tables and over 1 billion observations)
  • 1 year of professional experience creating data visualizations in MicroStrategy and creating and scheduling in memory data cubes and connecting to live data
  • 1 year of professional experience utilizing R, Python, SAS or other statistical, analytic software to answer complex business problems
  • 1 year of professional experience performing power analysis and significance testing
  • 1 year of professional experience implying causal inferences and extracting insights from data using machine learning techniques
  • 1 year of professional experience performing predictive analytics (including forecasting, time series, linear and logistic regression).

Physical Requirements:

This position requires you to sit, stand and perform general office functions. You may also be required to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Bending, stooping and reaching are also frequently required.
