Powered by world-class technology and operations, we have set out to transform the end-to-end Customer experience -- from revolutionizing last-mile delivery to rethinking how Customers search and discover on a truly mobile-first platform. We have been named one of the “50 Smartest Companies in the World” by MIT Technology Review and “30 Global Game Changers” by Forbes. Coupang is a global company with offices in Beijing, Los Angeles, Seattle, Seoul, Shanghai, and Silicon Valley.

Job Overview:

Coupang’s vision is to be the destination to find, explore, research, and buy any product, and the Search & Discovery organization is responsible for creating such an amazing search, discovery and shopping experience for the customers. We are obsessed about improving every aspect of the conversion funnel, from the moment a customer downloads our app, to finding the right product and making a purchase.

This role is within Search & Discovery’s analytics team, a team that brings user, product, transaction, and session data together to derive actionable insights, answer complex business questions, and help us deepen our understanding of our customers. As a Data Scientist on the team, you will focus on Coupang’s search & discovery performance analysis and optimization, including conversion tracking by applying various KPI’s, along with analyzing the success of A/B and multivariate testing initiatives. You will work closely with Engineering and Product teams to not only accomplish business goals, but to come up with novel ways to capture and analyze data. Additionally, you will contribute to analytics projects designed to help drive Coupang's growth, support specific initiatives from all areas of Coupang, and help analysts across the team and organization with their development.

This role also leads multiple impactful initiatives related to user understanding, user experience, user engagement and retention. You will leverage your advanced expertise in machine learning, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, SQL and other query languages, data pipeline design and development, data visualization, to measure and predict user value, and identify key drivers of engagement and retention change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hypothesis Validations – Generate test hypotheses and clearly validate opportunities/recommend actions that can have positive improvements in customer experience and business KPI’s.
  • Test Analysis – Drive proper A/B analysis with statistical rigor and perform cohort studies to answer “why?” on test result drivers. Ideate more complex tests from an analytical and insightful reporting perspective. Develop automated data workflows and dashboards to monitor ongoing test performance/results.
  • Tell a Concise Story – At completion of Tests, build timely, compelling, fact-based test recaps that strongly communicate the business ‘story’ behind the data and test outcomes.
  • Communicate Results – Identify successes, failures, trends, and effectively communicate these findings to the organization. If test results are positive – analyze KPI improvements in pre/post A/B test roll-outs; if results are negative – perform driver analysis to recommend the next iteration of that test.
  • Design new KPIs that measure user experience improvement and long term business value which isn’t necessarily reflected on conversion metrics within the duration of a test.
  • Identify and model key drivers of user engagement and retention, predict LTV and churn.
  • Unleash the power of data science, propose data-driven innovative ways to improve search & discovery experience, work with product and engineering teams to turn ideas into experiments, and deliver long-term business value.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantitative field (Statistics, Engineering, Business), or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of relevant working experience in an analytical role involving data extraction, analysis, statistical modeling, and communication
  • Proficient with SQL, Python, and R/SAS or any statistical package
  • Data visualization experience
  • Has experience working with Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, and Presto
  • Hands-on experience with applied machine learning and statistical modeling
  • Strong critical thinking and detail-oriented with an aptitude for solving ambiguous and unstructured problems

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Quantitative field (Statistics, Engineering, Business),
  • Has experience in E-commerce product analytics or data science
  • Tableau, Superset and Airflow experience
  • Solid A/B testing experience
  • Experience with scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective relationship management with internal & external business partners
